"So, Karina, where did you move from?" Mia asked as she sat on the couch across from the woman, a cup of coffee in her hand.
"Well, I'm local but my family came from England," Elizabeth said it wasn't exactly a lie, just like all the lords their ancestors had origins, for example, Heisenberg being of German heritage, More of French heritage, Beneviento being Italian and Dimestrescu being Romanian.
"So why did you move?" Ethan piped up from the kitchen as he made Elizabeth a cup of tea. "Well, I just needed a change." She responded, her eyes still on Rose, she was lying in a Moses basket next to wear the television was, a temporal sleeping place for her while the cot was still being set up in her parents' bedroom.
"Do you have kids?" Mia asked, noticing how much the new woman in her house was watching her baby.
"Oh no, as I told Ethan before I live alone." The said man handed her her cup of tea and went to sit with his wife.
"So you're a bit of a lone wolf," Mia observed sipping her coffee once more. Elizabeth nodded turning to face the couple as she waited for her beverage to cool down before she drank it. "I guess." She shrugged.
"So, why did you guys move here?" Elizabeth asked, she noticed how the pair seemed to visibly tense up at the question, both looking at each other before Ethan answered her question.
"A fresh start."
After this encounter, the Winters took a shine to Elizabeth, or as they knew her, Karina. Elizabeth didn't think her deceased mother would approve of her using her name as an alias, but she could lecture her about that in the afterlife. Elizabeth spoke to Heisenberg every night just like they agreed on, he always checked and double-checked she didn't need anything and that she was safe, which of course she was.
The only other person with access to her telephone apart from the Winters and Heisenberg was Miranda, who did routine checks, asking about the baby's health and if she noticed anything unusual about Rose, she never did, the seemed like a normal healthy baby girl, but Miranda was interested either way.
For a while, to Elizabeth it seemed like she had a normal life, the only thing missing was Karl. This picturesque life was short-lived when one painfully snowy night.
It began.

Elizabeth was sat in the Winters' living room, in a space on the single-seater couch that was now lovingly named "Auntie Karina's spot". She has built such a relationship with the couple that they had been telling Rose that she was her auntie, it melted Elizabeth's heart, she loved being considered family, especially to such amazingly kind people, she would even babysit Rose on the odd occasion, the couple were reluctant to leave their child but they needed a break and who else would they trust but Elizabeth?
"Gifts we gave but more you took, so more, in turn, in turn is due she snarled, in a blink, the girl was trapped inside a mirror." Elizabeth chuckled at Ethans' concerned expression at the rather dark fairy tale Mia was reading his daughter.
"She's finally asleep." Elizabeth silently cheered, Rose had been fussing for hours and the adults had tried everything to get her down until Mia pulled out this old-fashioned book entitled "The Village of Shadows"
"What is the with the creepy story?" Ethan looked up at his wife "she's only sixth months old."
Mia brushed off her husbands' concern, explaining that it was a traditional local tale, this was questionable as Elizabeth had never heard of the book before.
"Besides, Rose doesn't seem to mind." The mother smiled down at her child but Ethan still voiced his concern.
"That's because she doesn't understand it, thank god. We moved here so that she wouldn't have to deal with any of that remember?"
Something inside Mia snapped as she was quick to shout at her husband. "There's nothing wrong with my memory!" Elizabeth knew something wasn't right, for a few months Mia seemed off but tonight something wasn't okay, the way her expression changed so quickly to a calm one after she had lashed out.
"You're just being paranoid."
Ethan apologised to Mia explaining he was only being cautious about Rose.
"Well why don't you cautiously go take your daughter to bed?" Mia handed the baby over to Ethan who took her in his arms gently.
"Don't you be taking my Rose anywhere without her having a cuddle off of Auntie Karina." Elizabeth cooed, she was more speaking to the baby than to Ethan as she got up from her seat and went over to Rose, softly stroking her head before placing a kiss on it.
"Youd make a great mum Karina." Ethan complimented chuckling, Elizabeth laughed with him but it was a painful laugh, she wanted what she couldn't have.
"Well maybe one day I'll have a baby as beautiful as your baby girl." Elizabeth smiled before bidding the couple goodbye for the evening and leaving the house, the air was bitingly cold but naturally that didn't bother Elizabeth.
She was about half way home until an unprecedented thing happened, a large armoured van came riding through the snow, Elizabeth thought nothing of it at first, until it came to a stop right infront of her and a small group of unformed men hopped out of the back of the truck, grabbing Elizabeth, handcuffing her and throwing a bag over her head, she struggled, managing to kick one of the men off of her but the suprise attack threw her off and her lack of vision didn't help either, she knew she couldn't be killed so why fight anymore? She toned down her resistance as she felt the men drag her into the van and sit her down.
The sound of the door slamming filled her ears and the bag was ripped off of her head, the men were sat beside her but one man was sat in front of her.
"Who the fuck are you?" She spat.
"I'm Chris, Chris Redfield."
