"Logic, inevitably, is the love of logic. It is not the love for living human beings."

Being an ex-assassin always had its downfalls. For example, long-term injuries, nightmares, being hunted down by the police or heroes, and not having an ounce of peace.

Nevertheless, Oda sighed for the fifth time today. His head turned sluggishly to look at his door. Light knocks rang out, almost menacingly, throughout his home.

The man looked at the time. It was just past midnight, and it was pouring outside. Who would visit him at this hour? He did, however, know the answer to that question.

Oda shuffled towards his door, unlocked it, and opened it. He looked down and saw a little twelve-year-old girl drenched in water and blood, her white bandages soaked.

His eyes softened as he gently guided the young girl into his home. Oda closed the door behind her as she walked in slowly. He then returned his gaze to get a better look at her. Her eyes were dull and lacked any color. Heavy eye-bags hung beneath her eyes, and Oda almost mistook them for bruises.

That wasn't all, the fact she was practically soaked it water made Oda raise a brow. Yeah, it's raining outside, but surely it wasn't bad enough to soak her like she had just jumped in a riv—

Oh.

The little girl's eyes turned red and filled with a plethora of emotions that not even Oda could make out. However, he noticed how her eyes slowly glass off, tears threatening to fall.

"(Y/N)..." Oda was at a loss for words for the first time in his life. The girl just stood there like a stray puppy, hoping that someone would come to her aid.

Her lip began to quiver—(Y/N) has a talent for hiding her emotions and is always on guard around everyone. She'd keep her guard up even if she were dropped in the middle of the desert with no one in sight for miles and miles.

But, in the presence of Oda, she has no choice but to be vulnerable. Oda can read her like a book, and no matter how hard she tries to hide her emotions, he always finds out.

And, even if she'd never admit it, a deep part
of (Y/N) is grateful for that.

Oda drew the girl into a hug. It didn't take long for her to completely collapse in his arms. Her breaths became uneven as she hyperventilated, desperately clinging to Oda's shirt as if he would vanish. Oda didn't mind if his shirt got wet from the hot tears. He drew imaginary shapes on the girl's back slowly, trying to calm her down.
