"Addiction is perhaps a sickness of the spirit."
—————————————————————————

No matter how much medication Ango took, he couldn't fall asleep. As a result, he always ended up remaining at his job longer. Ignoring any other demands while staring at a bright screen. Unless he passed out.

That's how he's always done things. And today was no exception.

So there he was in his dark office, slumped over his desk. The air was frigid, and it soaked through his clothing like he was naked. Each exhale that escaped his lips puffed out a small smoke cloud.

All the words were a blur when he looked at the stacks of papers on his desk, and his eyes had problems deciphering them. He sighed and took his glasses and rubbed his eyes.

Ango's job as a government agent demands him to keep his personal feelings as far apart from his work as possible. If it is in the best interests of Yokohama and Musutafu, the department will collaborate with the most terrible of criminals or sacrifice a saint.

Ango is aware of this, and has been aware of it since assuming this position. While he isn't always the best at disguising his emotions, he makes an effort not to express them when it's evident that doing so is a poor idea. For example, no matter how many times it reverberates in his thoughts, he would never say:

Fuck Mori Ougai.

Fuck Mori Ougai, screw his schemes and intrigues, fuck his persona as a responsible leader obliged to make difficult decisions for his company. Fuck him for telling Mimic about Ango's triple agent status and then appearing so concerned when Oda was ordered to 'find' him. Fuck him for bringing Mimic to Japan in the first place, and fuck him for putting Oda in its way on purpose.

Fuck him for killing five children in order to solve a situation he created. Fuck him for sabotaging the mafia's plans by killing the nicest guy Ango has ever met. Fuck him for murdering the guy who deserved it the least for inciting a negative emotion in (Y/N) that Mori didn't approve of. He's a jerk for ripping (Y/N) apart. He's a jerk for stealing her away from him.

Ango wishes he hadn't met him at all. More than that, he wishes Oda or (Y/N) had never met him and that they had found another organization where they could redeem themselves, one that wouldn't discard them like pathetic junk. Mori Ougai should never have been born and should never have damaged anyone else's life, he wishes. He has a long list of wishes.

If given the chance, Ango has a long list of things he'd like to say and do to Mori. He had no idea how he could express the depth of his contempt in words. What type of agony would be appropriate payback for Oda's pain four years ago?
