"You've gotten stronger, Akutagawa."

Just hearing those words made the said male's heart thump loudly in his chest. A sensation of joy and satisfaction ran in his veins as his eyes visibly brightened. He can feel the pride swelling inside him as he smiled. Despite the white-hot pain searing his body, he truly felt like his accomplishments were finally achieved.

"But not strong enough."

And just like that, his world came crumbling upon him yet again. A harsh force was felt on his face as the man stumbled back, falling on the ground as he groaned out in pain. He grimaced and writhed in agony as the grass below him was now tained by blood. His blood to be specific.

"Pathetic. I let you be my subordinate for a reason. Now, I'm starting to have my doubts on you."

A sharp pain erupted in the center of his stomach as his arms clenched it. Tears begin to form in his dark eyes but he sucked them in and hesitantly looked up to lock eyes with his mentor.

Those lifeless pools of (E/C) eyes stared back. Well, more like one due to the fact her other eye was covered by a bandage. Her lips seem to form into a frown as she lazily looked down on his weak figure as if she was eyeing a piece of trash. Her (H/C) hair fluttered in the light wind as she ran a gloved hand through it.

She scoffed before walking a few feet away from him, her back facing towards the male. "You won't last long in the mafia or league if that's all you got."

"Or do you?"

Those three words made a chill run up his spine. Her words seem to pierce his heart as he spat out blood and shakily stood up. He can see the sadistic grin forming on his mentor's face as she aimed a gun at him.

"Last chance. You either show me what you got, or I'll kill you."

Without warning, three bullets shot out the gun and came flying towards Akutagawa's weak frame. In a flash, the bullets seem to have stopped mid-air as if an invisible forcefield has stopped it.

Akutagawa bit back a cry of pain.

Jagged breathes left his lips as a dark, almost transparent, red forcefield appeared in (Y/N)'s line of vision, stopping the bullets as they fell to the ground.

Her smirk turned into a smile. A genuine smile. Or at least that's what Akutagawa thought.

Akutagawa disabled his ability before collapsing on his knees panting. He felt his head spinning and lungs aching. Hot sweat trailed down his forehead as he didn't even bother to wipe it off.
