"I do not want your admiration now, because I do not want your insults in the future."

Oda was alone at the bar. The air was heavy with liquor and he wallowed in it, feeling drunk without drinking.

It was an odd occurrence to be here first. (Y/N) was usually there first, Oda drink ordered for her. (Y/N) would order a drink, but seldom drank it. She would spend much of her time there tapping the ice in her drink, eating more crab than she should, or caressing the weird cat that hangs out behind the bar.

The cat in question was coiled up on (Y/N)'s seat, swishing its tail, and staring up at Oda with eyes that were unnervingly similar to those of a person. He reached his hand to pet it, and it turned its head to avoid him. So it would only let (Y/N) pet it. What a strange creature. Oda has never been able to stop pondering the mystery of the feline mind.

A short ray of sunlight created a warm orange glow on the floorboards as the entrance to the bar jingled and rattled open. The girl who walked in had too many coats on than necessary and was covered in bandages. She slipped off her overcoat and hung it on the coat rack.

"Evening, barkeep."

The barkeep didn't say a word, but gave a welcoming nod. The girl who entered suddenly noticed Oda, and a soft smile broke on her face.

"Odasaku," (Y/N) said, "you're early."

"Maybe you're late."

(Y/N) glanced at the clock. "No. I don't believe I am."

She walked towards her seat, and the cat jumped out of the way to occupy another seat in the corner.

"Apologies, Sensei," (Y/N) whispered.

Perhaps the cat allowed (Y/N) to pet it because of their shared strangeness.

The barkeep placed a can of crab and a glass of liquor in front of (Y/N) without her asking. She leaned her face on her hand, facing Oda. Her eyes were oddly bright, and the soft smile had yet to leave her face.

"Fancy seeing you here."

"I was here yesterday."

"Maybe you were. Maybe you weren't." (Y/N) tilted her head. "I'm happy to see you here now, though."

Oda hummed in agreement, taking a sip of his drink. It stung down his throat pleasantly. (Y/N) watched him with that bright (E/C) eye.

(Y/N) was decidedly hard to read. At least, to everyone except Oda. Whether he was just better at reading her than other people or because (Y/N) allowed herself to be read by him, he didn't know.
