———————————————————————The view was tragically romantic, to put it mildly. Across the sky, the setting sun cast sweeping rays of gold and pink, illuminating the scene. It felt like a butterfly's wing fluttered across (Y/N)'s cheek as if it were a loving caress from a goddess's delicate touch. There was a period of silence that blanketed the land like a thick, warm sheet during the golden hour.
For a little moment, she was deafeningly quiet. The passage of time was like thick honey. Nobody could be seen for miles and miles, except for rolling green plains as far as the eye could see. It was a miracle that no one could be seen. (Y/N) allows herself to daydream for a short period of time. She felt as free as birds.
"...can you hear me? Are you okay? Does anything hurt?"
A chuckle erupts past (Y/N)'s parched, dry lips before she can help herself, slowly opening her grimy eyes to the world. With the tiredness she was feeling pouring into her bones, she could scarcely keep her eyes open any longer.
Her laugh sounded so much like Mori, it was kind of scary.
"...(Y/N)?"
"Chuuya look," the girl whispered gesturing vaguely between two trees in the distance. Chuuya cautiously followed the point of her index finger, but saw nothing unusual.
"What is it, (Y/N)?" He chose his words carefully.
"Don't you see?" (Y/N) asked. It was strange to hear her speak so quietly and without a hint of harshness in her tone. Chuuya had never heard her speak quite like this before, even in close quarters. "Look, it's a flower. You like flowers, don't you?"
A bitter laugh escaped her lips before they could be swallowed. It was gloomy and ominous, and it didn't belong there. Following the laughs, there was some coughing, with blood splattering on the terrified face above her head. It dribbled down to her chin and spilled onto the soft blades of grass beneath her. She blinked slowly as her eyes fixed onto the azure ones when the coughing had subsided.
Trying desperately not to frown, Chuuya tenderly replied, "In between those trees?" Noticing that his hands started to tremble, he set them to work threading through (Y/N)'s greasy and damp hair.
"No...no, by the water...It looks like a jewel. Chuuya, you love the water."
Chuuya kept his strokes as steady as he could despite the dampness of his lashes. Playing along with his lover's fantasy would be better than being a realist, for it was a rare moment of bliss between them.
