"To be alive. To be alive. An intolerably immense undertaking before which one can only gasp in apprehension."
—————————————————————————

Ango disliked hospitals. The walls were too bright and clean, and the air smelled of antiseptic and disease. But it didn't seem like he had much of a choice, and he sighs as he walks down the corridor, his footsteps echoing against the smooth floor.

All he could hear was coughing, groaning, and chattering. These noises seemed to follow him, and they only seemed to stop when he entered the elevator and the doors closed. He leaned back against the wall, alone, and listened to the hum of the elevator.

This unease was ridiculous, and it irritated Ango. He'd been to this hospital several times with (Y/N) over the years. He was already aware that there was no danger in this location. So, what caused him to feel a heavy weight on his chest?

The elevator shuddered to a halt, and the doors slid open. Ango shook these thoughts from his mind as he stepped out of the door and into yet another too clean corridor.

After passing through door after door, he found the room he was looking for. He pushed open the door without knocking. The curtains were drawn back, but the room remained dark due to the cloudy sky outside. His gaze was drawn to the bed, where (Y/N) was sleeping.

She look so much younger when she's sleeping.

Her placid skin was dotted with sweat beads, and her hair was matted against the pillow. She changed out of her prison uniform and into a light-blue hospital gown. Despite her condition, Ango felt the weight on his chest lift slightly when he saw her breathing.

The sun began to shine through the hospital room curtains. Ango sat next to the bed. He absentmindedly stroked the back of (Y/N)'s hand, his swollen eyes boring a hole in it.

Ango could only wait in this too-white room, where the only sound was the regular beeps of the electrocardiograph. Wait for (Y/N) to move and wake up.

Ango raised his eyes to the girl's face. He bit his lower lip and tightened his grip on her hand, clenching his fingers to the point of causing her pain.

The girl jerked awake, her eyes fluttering open and her gaze fixed on the sight of Ango staring down at her. She gave a weak smile.

"You've finally woken up." Ango softly smiled at
(Y/N), who blinked slowly at him, and poured her a glass of water, which she drank quietly as Ango adjusted the pillows behind her. "You gave me quite the scare, you know that, right?"
