Ruthira looked at Rudra, "even I was thinking the same". "I was thinking about a civil wedding as well", Rudra started. "Oh same. Just us without anyone knowing, especially after I saw Alaipayuthey", Ruthira said.
"Oh what's Alaipayuthey"? "Saathiya's original". Rudra nodded his head, mouthing, "oh". "But even a part of me wants a traditional wedding", she added.
"How about we do it like Yeshna"? She looked at him in confusion. "We can do a Tamil wedding and a Bengali wedding. What do you think"?
"I like the idea of it but what about the cost. One wedding itself cost a kidney and now two", Ruthira replied. Rudra held her hand in his palm, "we will handle it. It would be on the same day but at different times". Ruthira nodded with a big smile.
"And about the civil wedding", Rudra gained her attention, "we can do it way before the traditional wedding without anyone except a few friends' knowledge".
"Just like Alaipayuthey and Saathiya", Ruthira smirked. "Just like Alaipayuthey and Saathiya", he whispered back. "If you want, I'm ready to speak to your parents". "No Rudra, let's just stick to what we initially planned", she replied.
"Do you know Bengali"? Ruthira did not receive any answer. She saw Rudra shaking his head. "Ma is from here, Delhi. She doesn't know Bengali, she did try to learn but gave up. Since Pa also spoke to her in Hindi and English, we grew up just speaking those languages. But I do know basic survival needs like four to five sentences".
"Seriously, four to five sentences? My family moved to Delhi when I was five because Appa had gotten a job transfer here. So when I was in school, Hindi was my mother tongue and it was better than my Tamil.
Because of that Amma made me write an essay each day before I sleep in Tamil. During weekends, I had to spend extra two hours apart from homework on reading Tamil books", Ruthira let out a huge sigh.
Rudra laughed, "I understand where she's coming from. Sometimes I feel like Pa wants us to know Bengali but he wouldn't voice it out. When we have kids, you teach them Tamil and I will teach them Hindi. Pa can teach them Bengali".
"First let's get married, then we'll talk about kids.", Ruthira laughed. Her laughter was soon accompanied by his.

"Aaru, which is nicer? The pink or red", Yeshna lifted the two lehengas. "The red". Yeshna nodded and picked the red one to the dressing room. She showed Ruthira how it looked on her. Upon getting a confirmation from her mom, Aditi and Ruthira, she decided to finalise that.
"So which lehenga do you want", Rudra asked Ruthira from her side, acting like he was interested in the sherwani rack. "I'm more of a saree person", she replied.
"Then what are we doing here? Follow me", he pulled Ruthira to the 3rd floor of the three story boutique. The whole floor was dedicated to sarees. "Come choose".
She picked out a baby pink chiffon saree with green border and placed it on her shoulder. "Hmm. It's nice but let's see for more. We can't settle with the first one. Either way we need to get two, one for the morning, another for the night", Rudra suggested.
"I already have a saree which I wanted to wear for the morning", she said finding another saree. "But still, let's get a new one". "Rudra, let's not waste money. I only wore that saree once, it's still new". Rudra gave up and started looking with her.
Yeshna and Abhi were doing their pre-wedding ceremonies in a small scale. The mehendi was going to be on the night of when the haldi was happening with only friends and Sangeet was going to be a grand celebration.
After about 30 minutes, they found the perfect saree. The moment she held it against her shoulder, his eager to see her in the saree grew.
Despite Ruthira's denial, Rudra paid for her saree. Since he had informed his mother beforehand, nobody was looking for them. They entered the elevator and before he could press level two, she pressed level one. "I'm getting you a sherwani", she declared like a boss.
Rudra was happy and didn't protest. She took out her saree and asked the staff if they had a sherwani matching her saree colour. After a few minutes, the staff came out with a few catalogs with some pages, folded.
They handed the catalogs to them saying that the folded pages had the matching coloured sherwanis she was looking for. Soon, a design caught her eyes and she pointed it to Rudra in excitement.
"Yeah, I was seeing this as well. It's nice", he said. Ruthira asked for that piece in Rudra's size for fitting. After trying it, he showed it to Ruthira who faked a whistle as she didn't know how to whistle. When he went back inside the fitting room, he looked at himself in the mirror and smiled.
Truth to be told, he never saw what she was choosing. The whole time he was just observing her. How her nose cringed when the suit was too flashy, how she frowned when she didn't like it.
But when he saw a beautiful smile on her face, he knew that was what he was going to take. Without seeing the sherwani itself he liked it as it brought a smile to her face. Ruthira paid for it and they joined the others back.
When they went up, they found out that the guys were done with their shopping and only the ladies especially Yeshna was still finding for nicer and better ones. Who wouldn't anyways?
=====
There was only one week left to the wedding now. Many things had happened. The venue for the wedding couldn't be booked last minute and they had to settle with a pricier option.
Ruthira's family was bugging her about how her friend was getting married and that she was yet to tell her decision.
"You said you wanted time and it's been two weeks. You never contacted Sarath after that. That boy likes you and wants to marry you. Why are you treating him like this"?
"Amma please, I don't like Sarath. Infact I don't like the whole idea of us getting together. He might be a nice man but he's definitely not for me", Ruthira tried explaining to her mother.
"And why don't you like him", it was Mohanraj this time. She fumbled for answers. "Aaru, is there someone we need to know about", Brinda spoke softly. Everyone's head snapped towards Brinda. "Is it that Rudroneel", Adhi raised an eyebrow.
Both Nila and Ruthira were shocked. Ruthira looked at Nila who mouthed, "I didn't", shaking her head. "Adhi what are you speaking"? "Appa have you see-".
"Everyone, just give me two more weeks to think about it", Ruthira cut Adhi off. "Fine. However, if after that you still don't give a solid reason, I don't know", Mohanraj patted her head before going to his room.
"Chellem, if you are seeing someone, don't worrry okay", Brinda hugged her. Ruthira hugged her back tightly, finding solace in the warmth of her mother and mumbled,
