It was AbhiNa's haldi. Everyone was preparing for it excitedly. "Beta can you bring Yeshna down, the haldi is ready", Maitra called out to Ruthira. "Ji". She went to Yeshna's room to bring her down.
"Let's go heroine", she back hugged Yeshna who was looking at the backyard from her window. "What are you thin- are you crying"? She felt a drop of water on her arm that was resting on Yeshna's shoulders.
"Yeshna what happened"? "I- I- suddenly I don't want to get married. I don't want to leave my house. Remember those times when I used to say 'can't wait to move in with Abhi', I just want to take back my words.
It's not like I don't want, don't want this but, I can't leave my family. Yes, I know Abhi's parents are gems but no one can replace Mumma, Papa and Bhai for me.
They know me inside out. How I prefer my food, my eating habits, sleeping habits, my way of coffee, everything. No one, not even Abhi can know me the way Mumma does".
She hugged Ruthira tightly and started crying. "Hey, this is life. Abhi is also leaving his parents just like you. You can always visit your parents, no one has the rights to stop you from doing that.
I know it's hard but this is a new chapter in your life. You need to embrace it with a smile not by overthinking", Ruthira patted Yeshna's head.
"Hmm. Let's go, they will be waiting for me. Let's have so much fun just like how we had planned", Yeshna pulled out from the hug and wiped her tears. Ruthira nodded happily and dragged Yeshna down.
"Here comes the bride", Shaswat announced and made Yeshna sit on the decorated chair. "Shall we start", Maitra asked Yeshna's aunts and everyone agreed.
Maitra and Shaswat applied the haldi on her cheeks, arms and legs. Shaswat placed a kiss on her forehead before stepping back. After whom, Rudra who was forced by Yeshna applied the haldi.
One by one all her aunties came and applied the haldi. Mohanraj, Brinda and Nila who were present there applied it as well. At last it was Ruthira's turn. She smirked and took a handful of haldi in both her hands.
"Aaru no. Don't- don't do this. I won't-", her words were not completed when Ruthira rubbed both her hands on Yeshna's face. The whole crowd laughed at the childish behaviour.
Yeshna looked up, glaring at her friend. "I won't leave you", her tone was cold. Before anyone could do anything, Yeshna dumped the haldi bowl on Ruthira's head. Some small gasps and laughters, surrounded.
"It's a sign she's going to get married soon. Hopefully she tells us about her decision soon", Brinda told Nila who was awkwardly nodding. They heard someone clearing their throat, "do you all want some water"?
"No Neel, we are fine", Nila replied, knowing Rudra had heard their conversation. Rudra nodded and went back to the corner where he stood before.
His face was void of any emotion. "Yeshna stop", Ruthira screeched. That gained his attention. Nila also saw how his face had a smile when he saw her.
