December 4th
Virtue grumbled in her seat and turned her head to the side. Today was emotionally grueling and for her sake, she just wants it to be over. Mr. Channing was having the repast at his house and Virtue and Exodus were asked to join but they don't think they're going. Exodus felt how she felt; tired and emotional. He was emotional under circumstance, and because he actually knew the sweet woman, but everyone else was emotional around him which made it draining.
He needed a nap. A butt-naked nap.
Watching her be lowered into the ground had hurt Virtue's heart in so many ways. She turned her body away from the burial and then eventually she had to leave and go sit in the car. Exodus stayed on the representation of them.
Mrs. Channing got buried in Fredrick, Maryland which was about an hour and some change of a drive. It was a good drive though because Virtue can take a nap and calm her nerves, but she didn't want to do that. It was already 4 in the afternoon and time has already went back an hour which means that the sun was about to set.
Exodus was an excellent driver but a second pair of eyes on the road wouldn't hurt. She didn't want to make it seem like she wasn't present with him in the car. As sleepy as she was, she decided to talk to him, which didn't go over very well.
She started talking about random shit; like stuff that didn't make sense. It ranged from cats to the government and then to carseats and airplanes. He laughed inwardly because he was trying to make sense of it all. Just by the way she was talking, he knew that she was trying to stay up.
"Baby gon' get some shut eye," He told her and she shook her head.
"No Papa, I'm not sleepy," She said through a yawn and Exodus cut his eyes at her.
Exodus continued to drive, smirking at her. It looked like she was fighting demons over there. The way she was blinking hard and rubbing her eyes made him want to laugh so hard. Mamacita was going through it.
It gets quiet between them and Virtue was still fighting her sleep. She was rubbing her belly, getting ready to go to glory until she chuckled to herself saying, "Remember a while back I told you that I couldn't sleep in the middle of the day? I get pregnant one lil time and now look at me," She continued to chuckle, thinking back.
Exodus chuckles with her, recalling that as well. It seemed like the moment she gotten pregnant, she's been sleepy all the time. If she's comatose now, he already knows that she's gonna be dead as a doorknob by the time she reach the third trimester.
"Speaking of babies, the twins are getting christened next Sunday and Ephraim says that all parents have to be present," He said, alluding to the fact that Virtue is indeed the twins godmother.
At that very moment, Virtue despised the fact that they all go to the same church. They just all had to be members at the same church. Tarryn and Virtue haven't talked since they've gotten back from Jamaica, and that was a whole ass month ago. They didn't see each other after the incident, on Thanksgiving, nor on Mama Carryn's many get together's in between. It was almost Christmas and not one call from either of them. Not one single word.
On Tarryn's end, she misses Virtue terribly but on Virtue's end, she was quite alright with the way things are. She never forgotten about her godsons though. She thinks about them often but the anguish that she had for Tarryn, despite her godsons, kinda overshadowed her feelings. She would love to be apart of her godsons life but she refused to talk to their mother right now.
