May 2008. 17:45. Downtown Los Angeles, CA.
Third Person POV.
Sophia was arriving at her place after a brief meeting she had with Fury. Apparently he had travelled all the way from New York to LA just to be told first hand information. Too bad they didn't get what they wanted.
*FLASHBACK*
Sophia was in her apartment with Michael, when both of them received a video call from Fury telling them to meet them at an abandoned warehouse near Sophia's place. They got in the car and arrived at the place. A couple of undercover agents outside "working". When they got inside, they were greeted by Phil and Nick. The first standing behind Nick, while the latter was sitting in a chair behind a desk.
Dramatic, like always.
-Sir.- Sophia said as Nick nodded his head towards the two agents. He motioned for them to sit in the two chairs in front of him.
-Agent Dumont, agent Sinclair.- Both Phil and Nick greeted her.
-What can we do for you sir?.- Michael asked as he sat down on Sophia's left.
-I need agent Dumont to update me on the Stark situation.- Nick said as he clasped his hands together in front of him.
Sophia scrunched her eyebrows in confusion and tilted her head to the left.
-What "Stark situation" are you talking about?.- Sophia asked as she crossed her arms in front of her chest.
-The situation where your brother managed to escape a group of terrorists and the fact that we still don't know how he did it. Because I'm sure he didn't do it by throwing punches.- Fury said as he leaned forward on his chair. Sophia looked at him and lifted her chin.
-Well, if we're talking about information, how about you tell me why agent Coulson was at the press conference when Tony arrived and why did he want Pepper to contact you?.- Sophia said as she lifted her eyebrows at both men.
Nick turned to look at Phil and he just shrugged his shoulders. Fury let out a sigh and rolled his eye. He turned to Sophia.
-This is not an information exchange, Sophia. This is something we want to know. We need to know what happened over there.- Nick said and Sophia shifted on her seat.
She held her gaze with Fury's. None of them blinking, blank expressions taking over their features. None of them breaking their posture and gaze with the other. Nick Fury was certainly an intimidating man. Sophia knew that. But she didn't give it away. She stood firm, looking him in the eye. She narrowed her eyes.
-Sophia. We need to know.- Nick said as he kept his gaze fixed on Sophia.
-Why do you need to know?. He said what happened at the press conference. Phil heard it, he was there.- Sophia turned to look at Phil and this one remained serious on the outside, but inside, he felt a pang of guilt in his chest.
No one had told Sophia that they were going to the conference to gather information about Tony. Only Fury and Phil knew about it. It was a mission for him only, and even though Phil knew it was his job, he felt guilty that he hid something from his favourite agent, especially when it was something regarding her brother.
Sophia knew that it was Phil's job and her uncle's. But still, a part of her felt betrayed that they didn't trust her enough to tell her what they were going to do. She could've helped them if they had asked. Of course she would've. She would've tried a different approach, but she could've been a great help for them. But they decided to hide it.
