May 2008. 11:20. Downtown Los Angeles, CA.

Sophia's POV

I had gone out early to buy some stuff I needed for the house and some things Tony asked me to pick up for the project.

Today was Michael's last day in LA before he went back to New York for a couple of days and then on a mission. An important one with his team I guess. Walking through the store, I felt my phone buzz in my pocket. Taking it out without seeing who it was, I brought it to my ear.

-Hello?.- I said as I took a few chips from the aisle.

-Now that you are a cali girl you've forgotten about your best friend?.- Clint's voice became present on the other side and I smiled. It had been a few days since we last spoke, because he and Nat had gone on an undercover mission and they had just come back.

-First of all, no matter how much time I spend here, I will always be a french girl and New York girl. I love LA, but yeah. Second of all, I knew you were on a mission. An important one and I am a hundred percent sure you wouldn't have appreciated me calling you in the middle of it, would you?.- I asked Clint with a small smirk on my lips. He laughed.

-Well, yeah. But still, a little call to your best friend would've been appreciated. Even more when we come back only to find out you have been suspended. What the hell, Sophie?.- Clint said as he let out a surprised laugh at the end. I took a deep breath and pursed my lips.

-Yeah, well. Things happened and yeah. I got suspended.- I said to him while walking onto another aisle.

-Care to elaborate?.- Clint asked me in a curious and serious tone.

-There's not much to say. I was asked to do something, I did not agree with the terms of it and I said no. After that Nick suspended me until further notice for not doing my job. Insubordination, like he likes to call it.- I said to him as I shrugged, relieving the memories from that tragic and tedious moment of my month.

-Right. And let me guess. You denied it because it had something to do with your brother, right?.- Clint said as a matter of factly and I stopped in my tracks, mid-grabbing a juice bottle. Sometimes I hated how well he knew me.

-Maybe.- I said, not giving much away, even though I knew he knew it was that exact reason.

-Well, if it makes you feel better--. He couldn't finish his sentence because he was interrupted. A long pause and rambling was heard in the background. I scrunched my eyebrows in confusion and looked at my phone.

Placing it back in my ear, I heard more rambling and then another voice.

-If it makes you feel better, we agree with you. It was a low blow from Fury to ask you to do that.- Clint's voice was replaced by another one more feminine and soft. Nat.

-Hello to you too, Nat.- I said to my bestie friend and smiled. It had been a while since I've seen her and I just missed her terribly, just like Clint.

-Hi. So yeah, I did not like it either. And I think your suspension is stupid. But once they realize that, it'll be too late, because usually they notice when chaos has erupted so...- She said with a cocky voice and I smiled.

She is a damn boss.

-In that you are right. But let's hope there is no chaos. How have you been?.- I asked her, changing the subject.

As much as I liked to talk to her, I would rather speak to her about this in person rather than over the phone. One could never know.

-Well, I have been okay. Doing some things here and there, you know, the usual. Although I miss my partner, you know? I mean, Clint is alright but I need my other half.- Nat said and I smiled. I laughed when I heard Clint's voice in the back complaining.
