August 2008. 19:50. Silver Lake, S.H.I.E.L.D HQ, Los Angeles, CA.
Third Person POV
Sophia stood with her arms crossed over her chest, thinking about what Nick had said. She had told Tony that she was going to go to the hospital for a quick check-up and that she would go with him when she was done.
It was just a small lie, but she needed to talk to Nick.
-We're not doing it.- Sophia said as she shook her head. Phil, Michael and Nick looked at each other.
-Soph, he pretty much just revealed the secret to everyone in the world. The fact that we know now it's just good timing.- Michael said as he leaned forward on his chair.
Sophia turned to look at him pointedly, but didn't say anything.
-Listen, Dumont. The secret's out, cat's out of the bag. You know we've been planning this for some time now. He could be useful.- Nick said as he looked at his niece.
Almost two days ago he thought he had lost his niece, and now she was standing in front of him, as stubborn as ever, arguing why it was not a good idea to bring Tony to the AI.
-I know, but there's still a lot of risks. He is not a hero, Nick. He is just a man with a suit of armour that has high technology. He has no superpowers or enhanced healing, or is immortal. He is a human and he could get hurt.- Sophia said as she looked at her uncle dead in the eye.
-Just like you could get hurt, again?.- Michael said to Sophia and she glared at him.
Both of them haven't been really able to talk about where they stood and their relationship. So many things had happened in the last 36 hours that there was really no time.
-Don't. Don't try to use my job as an excuse.- Sophia said between gritted teeth.
She knew she was taking the same risks as Tony, but this was her job. She trained for this her whole life. She was expected to survive. Not that it went so well the last time, but still, she knew how to do this, Tony was just starting to.
-Sophie, there's no going back. At the moment he decided to reveal his identity to the world, a lot of people have already taken interest in him. Not just good people, but bad and dangerous as well, you know it.- Phil said in a soft voice while looking at the girl in front of him. For a moment he really felt he had lost the closest thing he had to a daughter. -Don't you think it is better that we are the ones to take him instead of someone else?.- Phil asked and Sophia looked at him.
There was a difference in the way these three people were asking the same thing.
Nick was asking them as the boss. No rambling, no hesitations, no sugar coating. He was giving a direct order, he was asking for something he expected to have.
Michael was talking out of worry and logic. There was no difference to what Sophia was doing to what Tony was expected to do. He just wanted Sophia to see things from the way they were. He was still worried he would lose her again. He was trying to make her see it was the same for Tony.
And Phil. Phil was asking in a sweet way, but at the same time as a boss. He was asking and questioning Sophia, making her reflect if it was better that they, the good guys, took her brother, instead of someone else. He was asking nicely, letting her know and realize what the best option was.
