Third Person POV
The night had fallen a few hours ago. The weather in Albania was below 10°C and the breeze that was coming through the safe house window was chilly enough to make Sophia shiver a little in her sleep. She rolled in the bed and switched positions every once in a while.
After rolling for the hundredth time, Sophia laid on her back, watching the ceiling. It had already been months since what happened with René. She couldn't sleep, not because she missed him, because after a while she didn't, but the words he had said to her stuck at the top of her mind.
"I should've known that you wouldn't get it. How could you? You're just a child." "You don't care about anyone but yourself." "You are just a little girl who thinks that she can save the world, like her brother, but truly you're just a spoiled little brat, a nobody, a whining la pute (a whining bitch)."
She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. Rubbing her eyes with the heel of her hands she shook her head and stood up. Crawling out of the bed, she took a sweatshirt and put it on. After grabbing her tennis shoes, she started to walk out of her room. As she opened the door, the view in front of her made her jump a little.
Surprised by what she saw, she felt her mouth part slightly.
There, in the middle of the hallway, illuminated by the dim lights, a pair of green eyes were watching intently into her brown ones.
-Mickey.- Sophia said as she watched the man in front of her shifting his weight from one leg to the other. Michael took his hand and rubbed the back of his neck. His eyes darted to the floor instantly to avoid the intense gaze of chocolate eyes.
-Hey, Soph.- He said, looking up. His knees instantly trembled at the sight of her.
They had gotten closer once again in the last months. Both of them separately knew they were starting to feel things again. One of their main thoughts being how after everything that happened, they still came back to each other, no matter the way it was. As co-workers, friends, couple, friends again. It didn't matter, because somehow, destiny worked in order for them to be in each other's path again.
-What are you doing here?.- She asked the brunette man as she wrapped the sweatshirt tighter around her body.
-I couldn't sleep, and for some reason I felt like you couldn't either.- Michael said as he looked at her with a shy smile. Sophia smiled and looked down to her shoes.
-After everything, you still know me this well.- Sophia said as she let out a breathy chuckle. Michael smiled and looked at her.
-And that's not going to change.- Michael answered and Sophia nodded. They stood in silence for a couple of seconds, it was not awkward, but both of them could feel the tension rising. Michael looked at Sophia once again.
She was wearing a pair of grey sleeping pants, and a sweatshirt with the letters "M.I.T". Tony had given it to her, surely, he thought. After a few more seconds of silence, a light bulb lit up on his head. He extended his hand at her and she looked at it with furrowed eyebrows.
At her confusion, he smiled.
-Come on.- He shook his hand for her to take and without any hesitation, she took it.
He held it tight and started to walk with her along the hallway. As they walked to the unknown location, Sophia couldn't help but remember how they used to sneak from S.H.I.E.L.D on their late night shifts and go to the roof of the building to watch the stars and the sky. They would lay on the floor, her head resting on his chest and his arm wrapped tightly around her waist.
