"So you've joined their club, huh?" Max asks, plainly.
You huff an entertained laugh, glad that she chose freely to start conversation at all.
"God no." You smile at Lucas as he smiles back.
"It wouldn't be such a bad idea, you know." Max says again, causing you to turn your head to look at her. She only stared at the basketball team, giving a dry round of applause at whatever nonsense they were spitting.
"What do you mean?" You ask, curiously.
"Well, I don't want you ending up like me." She smiles, weakly.
"Max, you're not-"
"-and besides...I heard Lucas say something about one of his team mates liking you. I'd rather you end up one of the weirdos than one of those stuck up, ditsy, cheer girls."
"Well Chrissy, for one, is anything but all those things." You sigh, "I wouldn't go there anyways."

You didn't mind Chrissy, or her boyfriend for that fact. They were the image of a perfect couple and everybody loved them.
You got along well with Chrissy, you always have. Before she joined the cheer squad, you and Chrissy would often have lunch together. Dare I say you were even the closest of friends, once upon a time. But; like all things, they end...partially.

After the assembly, everybody was free to go off into their seperate ways. You and Max walked off together towards the lockers as she needed to exchange some textbooks for different ones and you followed. As did somebody else.
"Max!"
Max stiffens in place, recognising the voice. You turn around to meet Lucas's pitiful stare.
"Sup Lucas." You say on Max's behalf.
"Y/N, hey."
Lucas pauses to catch his breath after trying to catch up to the two of you but that only let in the most awkward of silences. You raised your eyebrows in anticipation but he still only stands, breaking a sweat and speechless.
"Uhh, Lucas? Is everything okay, or?" You question.
"Max..." Lucas holds out a small, green, piece of paper, a ticket by the looks of it.
"I want you to come to my game," He finally says, revealing a second ticket beneath it, "-both of you."
"Your game?"
"The championship."
"Oh." You turn your head to get a glimpse of Max, she seemed intrigued but not really interested. She didn't seem like she was gonna break character anytime soon either so, you go ahead and take the tickets from Lucas's hand.
"I think we might have plans," You lie, "but we'll see!"

Just then, you take Max's arm in yours and begin to drag her away from Lucas, after seeing her stare pierce fiercely at Lucas and not wanting to know where the conversation will lead if you didn't lead her away first.

"Alright, Lucas, we'll talk soon!" You shout behind you as you begin to move forward but not even one step in, you collide with something hard.
"Heeey, Y/N." Patrick says, accompanied by Chrissy and Jason.
"Heeey, Patrick..."
"You look like you're in a rush to get outta here, is something bugging you?" He says as he rests an arm against the locker behind you.
"Wouldn't say something, but-" You try to work your way out of Patrick's forceful presence but Jason cuts you off, instead.
"Patrick and Lucas would really love to see you two at the game, alright? Be a good sport." Jason smiles slyly, which surprisingly irked Chrissy and Lucas, both.
"Look," Lucas begins, "I'll understand if you can't make it but...I'd really like it if you did."
You smile sadly at Lucas, knowing he would go to the end of the earth to make Max happy again yet all he really had to offer was a ticket to a game based solely around throwing balls into laundry baskets.
"We'll think about it." You flash a weak smile.

At this moment, your eyes lock with another's in the hallway. A familiar head of long dark hair and a fashionable denim vest, Eddie.
He lead the group of misfits you met earlier in gym hall, paying no mind to the ruckus they were causing behind him, his eyes only zoning in on you as you stand against the locker with Patrick leaning over you. Flirtatiously, one would say.
"Y/N!" Dustin calls out to you from the loud group, making Eddie turn back towards him with a look of disappointment. "We're gonna go eat, you coming?!"
"Sure!"
