Hurdling over vines and icky black ooze, the group eventually made it up the stairs to Mikes bedroom where everyone stood, looking for anything that stood out even a little.
"Okay, you guys! Are you seeing anything on the bed? A uh- an anomaly or anything?" Dustin says from the other side.
"Look! Right here!" Nancy crouches down next to a glowing orange aura circulating on top of the mattress, watching as it comes into existence.
Nancy strokes her fingers through the mass which earned an excited squeal from Dustin, Erica and Lucas.
"Great! Great! Now try writing something!"
Nancy looks up at you, asking with her eyes if you'd like to try, in which you nod. You bend down, as does Eddie, watching you write 'Hi' in the air.
Hearing Dustin say Hello back, made small tears gather in your eyes. You missed feeling safe and at home. You missed going to the arcade with the others and being the usual carefree you that you are when you're with them. Eddie quickly noticed your change in expression, wrapping an arm around you, pulling you into him and effortlessly filling that hole with the safety of his arms.
"We'll make it back to him, I promise." He says as he places a kiss on your forehead.
In the meantime, Nancy lets Dustin know that the gate in lovers lake was now guarded by the bats, making you stuck in the upside down.
"If there's a gate at every death, there should be one at Eddies place! Do you think you can meet us there?"
"It's not too far from here but we might want to be fast if we want a good chance at getting back home at all." Steve says, getting a hard nudge from Eddie.
"We will get home."
"Yeah, okay...sure." Steve mutters, watching Eddies hand carefully comfort you.
"You have bikes right, Nancy?" Robin asks, "I mean, everybody has bikes."
Nancy only looks towards Robin as a smile spreads across her face, a rare sight for Robin, indeed.
After leading us to her families shed, she starts hustling out five bikes. Her own, her fathers, her mothers, Mikes and last but certainly not least, her little sisters.
"Aw man, why do I get Hollys?" Steve sulks.
"Hey, you're the one that decided to brag about all your athletic accomplishments." Robin shrugs, "A small, pink, definitely not at all girly bike shouldn't pose as a problem for you, right?"
Steve rolls his eyes as he begins to adjust the seat, while Eddie checks your bike for presumably punctures? You watch as he presses his hands down on the tyres before switching out your bike for his.
"I'll take this one." He says.
"Why?"
"This one has a flat tyre, so it'll be difficult to ride and if I'm being honest, if anybody has to become bat bait...I'd rather it be me than, well..." Eddie struggles to finish his sentence as he watches your innocent expression change into a sadder one. "Um...anyways, you ready?"
"...Eddie?"
"Mhm?"
"No hero stuff, okay?"
Eddie smiles lowly as he stares down at the ground, but you weren't smiling at all.
"I'm serious."
"Yeah, I know."
Eddie holds onto the handlebars as you hop on the bike. You had Karen's bike. It was significantly taller than your own, which happens to be just a BMX, usually smaller than the average cycle so Karen's was difficult to get onto but thanks to Eddie, you were able to get on in time to follow the others. The tips of your sneakers only just being able to touch the ground as you push off.
The streets were eery, dark.
Normally Robins rambling or Eddies hold would help rid you of the fear you felt down in the depth of the shit hole this place was, but all that accompanied you now was the sound of the bikes chain, rusted and old, crunching against the gears.
Way to add to the creepiness.
But as you continued down the same road, something indifferent could be heard.
The same familiar melody as earlier.
(The sunshine band- Please don't go.)
The music was faint and it sounded broken, scary; which was not at all like the memory it belonged to, but you did what you always did, you ignored it.
At least, you tried to. You kept your head down low, peddling fast until it passes but after noticing the music only getting louder, you look up to see a blue Camaro parked in front of you.
Billy's blue Camaro.
Except it was trashed with bullet holes and broken glass.
Even though you knew it was nothing more than a figment of your imagination, you can't help but abruptly steer your bike to the side to avoid hitting it. Which clearly did more damage, as you slide against the concrete, legs trapped underneath the bikes heavy frame.
"Y/N?!" You hear Eddie shout from behind you.
You whip your head up, frantically looking in the direction of the Camaro but nothing was there. All you see now is Robin, Nancy and Steve dropping their bikes and running towards you.
"What was that?!" Eddie panics as he crouches down beside you, "What the hell were you trying to do?"
"I- uh, I'm sorry, I'm okay."
"No, you're not." Eddie remarks, "I don't think you're telling me everything, Y/N please-"
"Y/N?! Eddie, what happened?" Steve asks as he checks your scrapes.
Nancy and Robin look down at your condition, visibly effected by something you've seen as you stare off into the surrounding woods like you were looking for something that just wasn't there. Your eyebrows begin to furrow sadly, reminded of the happy memory.
"Y/N, be honest with me..." Nancy starts, "Did you see something? Something...not real?"
Eddies hands rest on your shoulders, massaging them softly as he sits down closely behind you, legs situated around either side of your body. His ripped jeans coming into view as he prepares to listen.
"Please..." He says, "I need to know."
You look up towards Steve, who was already looking at you with worried eyes. You knew that he knew better than anyone about your relationship with Billy because he was the one person you came to when Billy would be his typical asshole self.
Steve sighs when he begins to catch on. "Shit..." He mumbles.
"-but!...it was just his Camaro, and it was broken, smashed, and- and the stereo was clearly broken too but it was also playing the cassette he made for me before all the...well, before everything turned to shit." You roll your eyes at the reminder, picking up the bike again, now covered in scratches that weren't there before.
"Do you think you'll be okay until we get home?" Nancy asks.
"Should do..." You lie.
