Walking into the hall, some groups of people were already seated and talking amongst each other. One of them happened to be some of Dustins friends, apparently.
"Hey! Over here!"
Suddenly, the arm around your shoulders jerks strongly towards the direction of the voice. At this point, you had no choice but to let Dustin drag you towards his group of outcasts. You stumble over your own steps as you struggle to keep up with the two boys, Mike being evidently happier than he was just moments ago, it made you smile.
"-and you are...?"
The smile between your rosy cheeks drops at the sound of the very same voice as before, only it was directed at you now. You look up from a pair of worn in, white sneakers to see a guy in a denim vest, long dark hair and the same shirt as Dustin and Mike seemed to be wearing.
"Your name?" He asks, again.
"Uhhh..." You pause, still under Dustins arm as he waits for you to speak as well. All eyes were on you and it made you nervous, not only that but this guy was intimidating.
"You okay?" He asks, once again.
You would have expected him to be nothing but impatient with you now but his voice was anything but that. His voice sounded soft and concerned more than anything and his eyes matched it.
"Y/N," Dustin says, "Her name is Y/N."
"Well, Y/N, I'm Eddie." He says with a smile, "-and there's no need to be scared, alright? I know I might look all mean and scary but trust me, I'm not."
"It's true." Dustin pipes in, again.
Dustin remains smiling, but Eddie, Mike and yourself fell silent. Mike was watching Eddie as Eddie watched you. However, your attention was on the other boys seated behind him. They all wore the same shirt as each other, hidden under plaid shirts and leather jackets while they whisper and snicker at what seemed to be...you?
What the hell is up with them? You think to yourself. Eddie shortly takes notice, turning around to face them as he slaps a handful of popcorn out of ones hand which instantly shuts them up.
As if Dustin could sense your insecurity, he rubs a consoling hand up and down your shoulder as he pulls you in closer, "They're not laughing at you." He whispers.
"Okay." You say, but you weren't convinced.
"Come."
Eddie takes a seat beside his groupies while Mike waits for Dustin to take his. Mike, of course, got along with the other boys but Dustin was his closest friend and he wasn't quite there yet with the others.
"Lady's first." Dustin says as he guides you between the cold, beam benches. You end up sitting next to Eddie as he fooled around with the other guys, throwing popcorn at each other and pretending to be wizards of sorts.
"You'll get used to them." Dustin says.
"Hey, no matter how much you ask, I'm not joining your little nerd group."
"I'm not saying you should..."
"Good."
"But maybeee-"
"Dustin."
"Got it."
"...I'm more of an arcade kinda gal." You add.
"Is that so?" Eddie says from beside you, his surprisingly direct eye contact and too close for comfort body next to yours made you shudder, but you decide that making a new friend wouldn't be so bad. So, you sit up straight, return his some-what intimidating stare and you smile.
"Matter of fact, yes I am." You say.
"You don't strike me as a gamer, Y/N." He sits up too.
"Well, you don't strike me as the Dustin and Mike type."
"Ouch." Mike says with an eyebrow raise.
"Yeah, ouch." Dustin joins.
"Too far?" You ask.
"Too far."
Eddie smiles widely, his teeth a pearly white as his eyes drift from yours to Mikes and Dustins.
"Hmph, I like her." He says, leaning over your lap slightly to get closer to the two boys beside you.
Suddenly, the groups of chattering turned into a hall of loud cheers when the head of the basketball team runs up to the microphone stand. You couldn't care less about some stupid game between some stuck up, pre-pubescent boys but as the team followed in tow, so did Lucas.
Lucas waved to the crowd with a cheery smile on his face, but it softened when his eyes landed on Max who sat alone amongst a group of people she didn't care to know. She only rolled her eyes and looked down into her lap, instead.
"Max..." You mumble under your breath, pity engulfing you as you begin to stand again.
"Hey, hey!" Mike shouts, "where are you going?!"
You ignore Mikes pleading and push past the tightly packed benches of students, but they barely took notice of you. Their eyes stayed on their pathetic excuse of 'hero's' up front. Lucas, included but he was thankful to see you making your way towards Max.
You shove your hand between max and a girl next to her, prying them apart and forcefully inserting yourself between them.
"Excuse me, sorry, just- hey Max, let me just-"
You huff a sigh of relief as you finally get comfortable next to her, she says nothing but flashes you a quick smile. In-genuine, clear as day; but she's trying.
"Hey."
You look down the aisle of people you passed and straight towards Mike and Dustin who were both shaking their heads in disapproval. Eddie was also curious as to where you went so he looked down the aisle as well, with a face easier to take in than the two boys beside him.
