Chapter 19:

Mirajane played with the straw in her shake. Juvia had begun to tell the girls for about the third time how she'd almost died when Gray met her in the corridor.

The white haired girl smiled from time to time.

Juvia was adorable and the amount of love she had for everyone had Mirajane care about her even more.

Each of the girls were special to her.

Lucy and Levy with their vibrant air. Strong, confident Erza whose real self only Mira knew. Sweet, soft Kinana who seemed a little distant...

"Kinana?" Mira asked softly so that only the purple haired girl could hear.

"Huh?" Kinana seemed to tear out of her thoughts to respond, "Yes, Mira?"

"What's wrong?" Mirajane asked.

"Nothing's wrong." The other girl responded softly trying to smile, "I'm fine."

Mirajane didn't want to push it any further and so, gave her friend a smile.

Kinana smiled back and almost immediately blanked out into another world.

Mira sighed.

Kinana would let the matter eat her out and then come running to a friend. That's the kind of person she looked like.

Mira guessed that Levy would be the person Kinana confided in. They seemed like close friends even without talking much.

Sort of like Erza and Mirajane.

The girls continued to talk, with Mirajane adding tiny comments here and there.

A few minutes later, the bell connected to the door tinkled, signalling the entry of a customer.

Mirajane leaned slightly to the side to get a better view of the muscular man who'd walked in.

Laxus had, with a few others, and he quickly surveyed the room, probably looking for a table.

He caught Mira's eyes.

Mirajane blinked as soon as their gazes locked and then, with a tilt of her pretty face, she smiled at him.

Laxus stared. Mirajane watched as his face went from surprise to calm to... fear?

Mirajane was taken back to say the least.

He didn't look scared. Just a very strong combination of nervous and confusion.

What a weird reaction was all Mirajane could think before the tall grandson of Fairy Tail's master gave her an almost hurried nod and walked into the cafe away from her.

The three people who'd walked in with him, followed after him like trained soldiers.

Mirajane wondered who they were and more importantly, why was Laxus avoiding her?

She hoped she hadn't scared him away with some sort of silliness.

Mirajane knew that the headmaster and his grandson didn't have a very good relationship.

What if Laxus thought she was somehow on his grandfather's side?

Of course, Mirajane also knew that Headmaster Makarov loved his grandson but would never admit it. Not even his life depended on it.

The white haired beauty looked over at the good looking grandson who now sat across the cafe at a table.

That stubborn streak must be in him too.

Mirajane wondered if she would ever be able to break through the strong wall he seemed to put up around people.

He couldn't be all that bad.

Maybe she'd try harder at making friends with him.
