Understanding Natsu

Chapter :

"Luce?"

"Yeah, Natsu?"

"Can I ask ya somethin'?"

"Sure."

Natsu and Lucy walked back home, taking the route that led to Lucy's apartment. 

Natsu wasn't sure if he wanted to tell Lucy everything that he was sensing these days.

He figured that she'd be the one he'd tell first if he ever wanted to share.

"You know the day we got our powers?"

"That was yesterday, Natsu."

"Oh yeah!"

He heard Lucy sigh and then let her hand graze her skirt.

His ears picked up the swishing sound her blond hair made in the wind and his nose took a deep breath of her scent.

"My powers are kinda weird."

"Oh?" Lucy looked over at him with the brown eyes he'd never really noticed properly, "Why do you say that, Natsu?"

He looked into her eyes, lost in thought for a moment, when her heartbeat began to accelerate.

"'Coz I can hear your heart start beatin' fast when it does..."

Lucy froze to stare at him.

He smelt the air change.

The blush on her cheeks began to spread and her eyes strayed away from his face.

Natsu reached over with his hand to gently tilt her head to face him.

Her heartbeat continued to race.

The pink haired dragon slayer looked seriously into Lucy's eyes, "You coulda jus' told me that you had heart disease, Luce."

"Exactly," Levy agreed.

The slender bookworm walked beside the gorgeous redhead as they made their way to the teacher's staff room.

Levy had been told by Erza that Coach Pantherlily wanted to see them urgently.

The gentle bookworm wondered what the matter was.

As the  two girls approached the door to the staff room, Levy noticed a tall male with spiky, black hair lean against the door frame.

"Gajeel!"

He looked over in surprise before allowing a scary grin to spread across his face, "Hiya, Shrimp."

She sighed before walking up to him with Erza, "Can you not call  me that?"

"Once ya grow up." He laughed his silly laugh at his own joke.

Levy pouted.

"Hello, Gajeel." Erza addressed him.

"Hey, Erza."

Gajeel sobered, "Whaddya think this is about? Why'd ol' Lily want us here?"

"I have no clue." Erza told him, "But he hasn't been to the gym ever since... ever since the Anima attacked."
