[Y/N] stared at the little pouty child in front of them. "No."
"Butttttttt," Jin Ling gave them puppy dog eyes. Curse him for looking so cute and innocent.
"No." [Y/N] stated firmly, trying to keep their ground.
"But why not?" Jin Ling huffed, still not giving up the puppy dog eyes.
[Y/N] crossed their arms. "You know why," they sighed.
"But-"
"No buts!" [Y/N] chided, gently booping his tiny nose. Jin Ling's face scrunched in disgust and he gave them a withering glare. Well tried too, all [Y/N] saw was a cute, tiny, child failing to look intimidating.
"Come on, let's go see your uncle." [Y/N] uncrossed their arms and put a comforting hand on the back of the Jin's back to gently lead him to where his uncle and [Y/N]'s husband was.
"Whats he going to do?" Jin Ling asked rather harshly. But [Y/N] heard the tremor in his voice. They knew Jiang Cheng scared Jin Ling and they planned to fix that. They had made a promise to his older sister, Yanli, when she was dying to take care of Jin Ling. And that meant that they wanted the nephew and uncle pair to get along.
"We're," they smiled, "going to spend some nice family time together."
"Wha- why!?" Jin Ling's wide and innocent eyes grew wider with fear.
[Y/N] smile turned a little sad but the boy beside them didn't seem to notice. "Because, I heard that's what all families did. And I think it will be fun." Also I just want you to have a normal childhood without growing up to fear your uncle, went unsaid and the little boy didn't seem to pick up on that.
Jin Ling puffed his cheeks out, face turning red, as they walked closer to the little shaded pavilion where Jiang Cheng was already seated at, looking out across the lakes of Lotus Pier as wooden boats drifted lazily by and children splashed in the shallower ends with their parents keeping a close eye on them.
"A-Cheng!" [Y/N] smiled, waving with their free hand that wasn't keeping Jin Ling from running away. "A-Cheng!"
Jiang Cheng looked up, face brightening immediately. His lips twitched up into a rare smile. "[Y/N]." He greeted.
Jin Ling shyly hid behind [Y/N]'s clothing, barely peeking out to shyly wave to his uncle. "H-hello uncle..."
Jiang Cheng hesitated, looking at [Y/N] hopelessly. They nodded their head encouragingly. Jiang Cheng silently sighed, preparing himself. "Hello... Jin Ling..."
Jin Ling's eyes widened and he couldn't help the bright smile that appeared on his face. [Y/N] smiled, eyes shining. Even Jiang Cheng looked happier than before. But it was pained. Jin Ling's smile looked so much like his mothers.
[Y/N] walked over and gently cupped Jiang Cheng's face with their free hand, smiling happily. "Look at you two! Already bonding I see!" They teased. Jiang Cheng flushed pink and [Y/N] crackled, pushing some hair out of his face. Jin Ling snickered. "Uncle is blushing!"
"I-I'm not!"
"Yes you are!"
"No!"
"Yes!"
"Alright you two," [Y/N] interrupted. "I'm glad to see you two getting along but how about we eat lunch first before fighting?"
The two begrudgingly agreed. They sat down all pouty which made [Y/N] burst into laughter. The two looked so similar.

After the servants had brought lunch out to them (hah you thought [Y/N] could cook? No not in this. They're horrible at it just like me :D), Jiang Cheng and Jin Ling had begone to fight over who got the last bowl of congee. [Y/N] simply sat back and watched them, pulling out their trusted flute. (I switched up I know-)
[Y/N] didn't notice when the fighting stopped, too focused on their music. (I've only played the saxophone okay? I don't know how to play the flute ahajkdfg) Their eyes were closed as they let muscle memory guide their fingers across the instrument.
Jiang Cheng watched them play with loving eyes, remembering the first time they had met... The first time he ever heard her play and the first time he had ever heard such beautiful music. Love at first sight, as they say.
Jin Ling watched the person he had grown to know as an (Aunt/Uncle?) with wide with amazement and curiosity eyes. He had only heard [Y/N] play once before in his life but he was really young and the memory was fuzzy and blurred. He could hardly remember anything except a constant melody that stuck with him for the rest of his life.
When [Y/N] opened their eyes again and looked up they were meant with the sight of both Jiang Cheng and Jin Ling out cold, the latter snoring gently. They smiled gently, tucking their flute away. Both of them were laying on each other, Jin Ling tucked nicely into the Jiang's side with Jiang Cheng's arm wrapped protectively around him.
[Y/N] stood, they felt bad for wanting to wake them or try and move them, so they decided on taking their outer layer off and laying it over the two as sort of a make shift blanket.
"Goodnight," they whispered and placed a kiss on each of their foreheads. "Sweet dreams."
