Reader's POV
I shivered as my body hit the cold water. It's November, what did I expect? When my body went underwater, I waved my arms around like a madman, as I was in a panic situation. As soon as my head went above water, I gasped for air. I was floating. Guess I didn't forget swimming after all. I looked up at the bridge, I couldn't make out anyone's face from this distance but, I somehow did see Shorty no. 1 attempting to jump.
Welp.
I know that I can run faster than him but I don't know if I can swim faster than him. I can try to shoot him a bit with his own gun but I would like to avoid that if possible. I broke out of my trance and swam towards shore. I got out of the water, back to where the bridge starts. I saw the cops turning around and driving towards me, violating their own one-way rule. I wasted no time in running upwards, back toward the road. I was soaked and cold, I needed a way to escape from the persistent cops soon. I pointed my gun toward a slow driving car, motioning it to stop and I made the one person in the car come out and I got in the yellow Alpine A110. I threw a few pieces of Alexandrite as a form of payment and took off without another word.
I researched this place for months. I memorized every road. This area has the least crime in the city so they might not have that many security measures, I just have to hope that I'll be able to take advantage of that. I got back to the road crossing where I took Historia's car and went straight ahead, meaning that I went to the left of the museum, where there were a lot of dead ends. Besides the dead ends, this area was residential and I don't know the reason but it was built like a maze. Every route except the dead ends connected. This was the only way to escape. I didn't use this plan before because I doubted that I would get lost as well. There was no other way now.
I shivered, only now realizing that I was cold. I cursed at myself for being too careless and a nervous wreck to forget my own gun at my house. If I had one then, I could've done something with it. I looked in the rear mirror, the cops were right on my tail. Even though I had been on many of these chases before, I was never on one this chaotic.
Once I was in that maze-like area, I brought my plan into action. I turned right, left, right, left, left, right, left, left, right, right, left, left, left, straight, right and got back to where I started.
What I saw after that shocked me. The cops were following me through this maze but the Bugatti Veyron just stood there blocking my way. It was a bit damaged, sure, seems that Shorty no. 1 wasn't a good driver. Shorty no. 1 standing on the side just waiting.
Did I just get outsmarted in my own plan?
WHAT DO I DO NOW?
I'm so dead.
But, I still won't just surrender. I will do this one last reckless thing. The last reckless thing for today. I can still be more reckless tomorrow but not for today after this. I have to do this, even if both immeasurably beautiful cars are destroyed, even if there is a risk that the diamond in my bag will get damaged. My life is priceless, after all I'm doing all of this for myself. Everyone lives for themselves. I am too. I won't get another chance at this.
I put more pressure on the accelerator as the car got faster. I saw Shorty no. 1 get visibly shocked at what I was about to do.
I drove straight into the Bugatti Veyron, crashing both of the cars. However, I hit the car in a way which caused the Alpine A110 that I was sitting on to turn over and lay on the already damaged Bugatti Veyron upside down. During this, I opened the car door and jumped out clutching my bag tightly. I fell on the asphalt road, bleeding more than I did when I ran into the cupboard. I didn't have time to check my wounds, all I knew was that I was drenched, cold, bleeding, exhausted and was being chased.
I immediately got up and started running, desperate to get away from there as soon as possible. I ran back toward the road crossing and I looked back to see Shorty no. 1 approach the car cautiously, a new gun in hand, still thinking that I was in there. Despite being worried that I might shoot him, he still tried to do his duty. I turned my back on him. That must have been enough of a distraction.
I bolted a few houses away at top speed. I needed to run, they would find me if I hid somewhere. I heard a loud voice behind which caused me to increase my speed.
"There's no one in the car!"
I didn't dare look back and continued running, earning strange glances from people who were passing by and clearly didn't know what was going on. As soon as I made it back to the road crossing for the 4th time today, I looked for the bike I left there and luckily, I found it. I don't know why the guy didn't look for it. Maybe because he felt like he didn't need to search for it after he got the solitaire and that was worth way more.
I got on the bike and took off. I didn't know where the cops were, all I knew was that I have a flight in approximately 5 hours and I need to be ready. I need to get to the airport with my skin mask and my fake passport, all of which was in my hotel room. It was in another city so I needed a taxi. But, I knew better than to get a taxi because I looked suspicious and there were cops all over the place.
I might need to get another car but the problem is that I left Shorty no. 1's gun in the car. Again, I shouldn't have forgotten my own gun at home. Is the bike my only option now? I guess so, I just hope the cops don't catch up. Right when I thought that, I heard sirens from the cop cars. Just when I thought that I had escaped.
I have to come up with another plan quickly. I was wrong, I can't run, I have to hide. I should hide at the place that they wouldn't never expect me to be. I turned my bike and headed back to the museum, that was my best chance now. They would investigate the museum to check how I managed to steal the diamond despite all the security but, they would do that later. Their priority was catching me. I got inside the gates, the guards were busy getting people out of there so no one noticed me. I was already to the back of the building when a guard noticed me, called after me, I ignored him and pedaled faster, praising myself for memorizing each and every area of the museum prior to coming here.
Once I got where I wanted to, I ditched the bike and got ready to climb the building by simply pushing my weight onto the stones on the wall that stuck out, made as a design. I hurriedly started climbing before the guard came to stop me. I was almost on the second/first floor until he came into sight. What was shocking was that he didn't see me, he just scanned the floor, upon not seeing anyone, he just left. Who the hell hires these people? Out there, the cops are chasing me through the city and this guard didn't see me when I was right in front of him! Whatever, I need to get back to what I was doing. I peeked into the second/first floor window, I saw one of the two men in suits that I saw in the morning. He was the one talking to Shorty no. 1. Now, he was clearly looking distressed, looking through his papers, he must be the manager of this place.
I smirked to myself, this was exactly what I needed. I wasted no time in climbing a bit higher and breaking into his office, quite literally. When I got in his office, I broke his window completely, shattering the glass everywhere. He turned to look at me, his eyes widened. Before he could do anything, I grabbed a piece of glass that fell on his desk and pointed it to his desk, completely ignoring the pain I got from breaking the glass.
"Scream and I'll kill you," I warned and he nodded, now intimidated by me.
Seriously, I was starting to get impressed by my own plans.
A/N - I actually drew out that maze to see that it actually ended back at the starting point.
