Reader's POV

The entire laundry room was a mess. It was already an unclean and untidy space but after the laundry machine blasted, guards panicked and the prisoners thought to use it as a chance to escape.

It was highly unprofessional of them to think that they can just escape on a whim without a plan because that's not how professional criminals work.

Except me, of course, since I'm exceptional (pun intended).

But it was hard to deal with all those guards and prisoners since most of the guards were chasing after me, knowing how many times I had escaped while also chasing after the other prisoners because if let loose, they could prove to be far more dangerous to innocent people outside the prisons than me who was only a thief.

The prisoners were a complete mess, worse than the condition of the room. They had no coordination at all as fellow prisoners who were all trying to escape. If they coordinated, way more of them would be able to get out but they were all pushing each other back when held them back as well.

I was an exception to the rule of stopping others from getting out since if others got out, it was none of my concern.

But right now, getting out the closing doors after the emergency button had been pressed was proving to be a challenge since I am not one for a physical fight.

"Levi!" I asked for my partner's help since I was getting nowhere by whipping people with wet laundry.

Though my signature move, 'nuts of nothin'' was quite effective.

"What? I thought you were self sufficient," Levi punched and kicked guards and prisoners as if he were swatting flies, "'Keep up with me'. Isn't that what you said to me?"

"Help me! I'm no good with my injuries!" I was almost falling multiple times in the stampede of people and the only thing keeping me standing was the thought of what would happen if I allowed myself to fall.

"Tch," Levi reached his hand out toward me and grabbed my arm, harshly pulling me toward me and sheltering me with his body. Maybe because he knew that I was the key he needed to get out his place, take his revenge and get back to his previous life.

Levi swiftly dragged me to the exit and through the closing gates with his hand that tugged on my arm and his other hand that was on my opposite side of the waist to help support my balance. We rushed to the next gate but it was closed.

As expected.

So I pulled out the guard key card from my pocket.

"Damn, it's closed," Levi muttered before noticing the card in my hand, "Brat, where did you get that?"

"'He's not a cop'," I quoted myself, indicating that I had subconsciously snatched the key card from the pocket of an unsuspecting guard as I slipped the key card through the card scanner as we both rushed through the gate.

But I lied. I did steal a card from a guard but I later found out that the guard had a low ranking and had access to only a couple of entrances and in the end, Marcel stole an extra card from the equipment room and gave it to me to let my plan run smoother.

But I couldn't tell him that. It would tarnish my reputation if someone heard that I needed help from people to carry out my plans.

And when we got through the gate, we put a long piece of wood in the hooks to make a makeshift lock for the door from the outside and then we lined up against it and faced the cold air and thankfully light snow that the place was facing. I looked at the lookout box that was perched on top of a stand and with my eagle eyes that I had always cared for to make my thievery excellent.
