44. Another Step Forward

Reader's POV

"This is such a bad idea," Levi cursed, "Remind me again why I have to wear this shit."

"Even though I forged the invite to the party, the fact remains that none of the people invited know us," I explained, relaxing in the limousine taking us to the villa for the party, "We are going in the place of two guests that couldn't attend, hoping that we wouldn't be recognised but we have to look similar at the very least. The guests were a man and his wife. It turns out that the wife is quite short so I couldn't possibly risk going as her."

"Excuse me?" Levi was pissed.

"Besides, we are wanted criminals and the authorities are looking for a short male and a taller female. Even if we hide our faces, we can't hide our body sizes. However, we can always disguise ourselves like this. I can go as a man and you as a woman."

"Did you have to pick a dress with this much embroidery and sequins?"

"That's the coat."

"Thank fuck. I'll be able to take this off."

"Levi, are you kidding? Your arms cannot be exposed. They have too much muscle for any human whether or not a cop or an officer."

"Fuck you for picking this."

"We had to blend in!"

"How the fuck are we going to blend in when you can barely walk?" He swore, "I could've done this alone."

"You couldn't have!"

"We could have postponed this!"

"We have to get to the diamond before Mikasa! We lose this clue to her and we have nothing else to follow!"

"Tch," Levi looked away.

"Let's go over the plan once more," I suggested, "Once we get in, we greet the host and then we dance-"

"What?!" Levi barked, "Dance?!"

"I think I told you!"

"I'm not fucking dancing with you!"

"Stop acting immature! We have to do this!"

"And how the fuck do you expect to dance when you can barely walk?!"

"I'll be trusting you to make sure I don't fall."

"Fuck no!"

"Levi, please?" I requested, "We can't do this otherwise. You have to help me and I have to help you. That's how this plan will work. The plan isn't split with a clear line. We'll have to improvise as we go."

Levi sighed, "What's the rest of the plan?"

"Okay so the couple we are going as is actually quite dysfunctional. And that is quite convenient for us."

"How is that?"

"The guy is sick so every so often he has to go to the restroom to take his medicine," I explained, "Because of this, my absence to steal the clue won't look so unusual. And the woman...let's say she's...social."

"I am not flirting with anyone," Levi understood my hint.

"You don't have a choice," I urged, "We're lucky the woman is like that because we need to keep the guy distracted. He knows very well what he has in his mansion so he will be extremely careful, even with prestiged guests."

"This is not what I signed up for!"

"I couldn't have known that you would have to do this," I pleaded, "And I don't want you to do this anymore than you do. Trust me. There's no other way."
