Reader's POV
"I'm so tired," were the first words I said when I woke up from my 3 hour 'nap'.
I wanted to sleep some more but I wasn't really comfortable in what I was wearing right now and I was hungry. I got up and got changed into a comfortable hoodie and pajamas. I wanted to eat and didn't really want to cook. One of the biggest cons about living as I was that I couldn't order food to my house. I somehow managed to get an electricity and water connection but there wasn't supposed to be a house where I lived. I fooled everyone only because when my mother was alive, she worked in the U.S. intelligence. I figured out one of her programs at the age of 17 and copied it. It took me an entire year to copy it while changing a few things to suit my needs. Even now, I have all her notebooks to help me when needed.
Also, I needed to find something else to work on. Maybe I should ask Mikasa, I also have to figure out how the cops already knew I was going to steal there at that time. It was too big of a coincidence to believe that they just showed up there by chance and decided to closely investigate what I was about to steal.
A short introduction to Mikasa Ackerman, Mikasa was a friend of mine. I was almost about to get caught when I was stealing from a weapons company owner and she helped me. I was reluctant to trust her at first but seeing how she risked her life to protect mine, I decided to give her a chance and now, she is someone I trust a lot and I owe her a lot.
I was about to call her when a thought suddenly popped into my head. I think I heard someone say Ackerman in the last 24 hours. I tried to remember but nothing came to mind. I shook the thought off and thought that was probably me just thinking about Kenny.
Kenny Ackerman was Mikasa's distant relative and a friend of mine in Russia's maximum security prison.
I accepted that I just imagined it and called Mikasa up.
"You're 3 hours late," She said as soon as she picked up the phone, "You can make a post on Instagram as soon as you get home but you can't text me to tell me you reached safely.
"Sorry about that," I chuckled, "I fell asleep 'cause I was tired."
"When are you not tired?"
"Oh come on," I grumbled, "I called you as soon as I got up!"
"Alright, alright, alright."
"Hmph!"
"Though, I don't see why you couldn't give me a call from a phone booth while you were in France," she pointed out.
"Oh, stuff happened. The cops somehow predicted that I was going to be there and arrived at the museum at the same time I was about to leave. They figured out that the diamond I left there was fake and chased me."
"Yeah, I read that in your post description but was it really that serious?"
"Yep."
"And you say it like it's nothing."
"It's really nothing, Mikasa. Stop worrying so much."
"Fine," she gave in, "What are you planning to do next?"
"Quite interested, I see."
"Of course I am. I'm worried for you."
"I haven't decided yet," I admitted, "I mean, I just got home."
"Ok so, when are we going to see each other next?"
"Lemme think."
"Can I visit you at your home already?" She asked.
Despite being a friend of mine, I never told her where I lived. Even Kenny didn't know that. It's not that I didn't trust them, it's just that I didn't trust them enough yet. But it's not like no one knew where I lived, three people did but they were people I had known since I was a kid.
"I'll invite you another time," I said, "I really want to visit a new cafe one of these days."
"Fine, I'll let you rest for a while. I'll text you a new cafe tomorrow. Meet me there on Sunday at 8:00 p.m.."
"K, Bye."
"Bye," she said as she hung up the phone.
I stared at my blank phone screen as I started to overthink the situation. As much as I was excited to see Mikasa again, I had a really bad feeling about this. Her sudden interest in my next plan also scared me. She had never asked me about anything before except when I was about to steal the Pink Star Diamond. And then, the cops knew about it.
Did she?
No!
I shook that thought out of my head. She was my friend, yet my anxiety and habit of suspecting even the closest of friends was getting in the way. She didn't do it. She couldn't have.
Right?
I got into the kitchen and decided to eat something first. I couldn't think properly with an empty stomach. Too tired to cook something, I just let it be. I was hungry but I ignored it, what I had to actually think about right now was far more important.
Did Mikasa really betray me? But she saved me. Did she change her mind or was this her intention all along? Or was I being a bad friend by suspecting her? I hoped it was the latter, she was a really important person to me and I didn't want to lose her. I didn't want to be betrayed by her. I couldn't just keep suspecting her and avoid her and I couldn't just let it be. I need to find out what's going on. I headed to my hacking room. I went ahead and sat at my desk, starting my computer up and putting on my blue light protection glasses.
I didn't want to suspect Mikasa, the only way to clear it up was this. Oh, how much I would love it if this was a misunderstanding. Though, life isn't that simple. That simple thing that she said made me suspect her. I didn't want to. It wasn't intentional. How much I want to learn to trust someone but I can't. I can't. After being lied to those specific three times, I can never trust anyone other than those three people that have always stood beside me. Even though the lie was intended for my sake, it broke me. I will investigate everyone that makes me suspicious, I won't be betrayed again. I won't be lied to again. I won't be clueless about the situation again.
This would take me plenty of time, I thought but nonetheless I went into the program and hacked into the France National Police Department which took me a good deal of time. Then, I tried to take a look into their calls and messages. I was successfully able to put in all the codes and opened up their log. I scanned their log for the past 14 days and found nothing suspicious. I decided to check the messages and if I found nothing there either, I would come back to the calls but no, I didn't need to. I found something that shocked me a little, no, they shocked me a lot.
There were messages from a random number and they told the Police Department that I would be stealing the Pink Star Diamond and they made sure to include the place and the time. This was the time that I told Mikasa that I would steal it, though afterwards, I rescheduled things a little bit to suit my needs. The person introduced themselves as 'A'. Mikasa 'A'ckerman. The A in her last name, could it be that? 'A' sent another message from another number, it said that I would be at the Anteiku cafe at 8:00 p.m. on sunday. One thing I was sure of is that it wasn't Kenny, I never gave him any information about any of this, not like I could give him a call from here anyway. It wasn't Kenny unless Mikasa and Kenny joined forces which is highly unlikely because they despise each other or, was it all an act? No, I shook my head, I'm straying from the topic.
Mikasa is the only one who knows about this and she doesn't need to tell anyone for this to work out, she's more than enough. Still, I shouldn't just take action on a suspicion, I should track this number. I checked my phone and looked at Mikasa's number, it wasn't the same. Maybe she got another one for this or I'm wrong. Mikasa not being the one leaking the information would make it much harder for me to find out the person but it would be better as I wouldn't lose the one who helped me all those years ago.
I clicked on the number and tried to track it. My fingers shaking as I hack, my eyes widened and mouth opened slightly upon seeing who the number was assigned to.
