Chapter 39: Welcome Back

"Korra, sweetie? Are you ready?" Senna called her daughter as she opened the door of her room. Korra looked at her and smiled.

"Come on, your father is waiting for us."

"I'll just catch up mom. Just a few minutes." the avatar said and looked away. Senna felt that something was bothering her daughter. So she walked over to her daughter and sat beside her.

"Sweetie, what's wrong?" Senna said and touched Korra's hand.

"N-Nothing mom. I'll just fix my other things then I'll follow you." Korra said and smiled a little.

"Are you sure?" Senna said in worried tone. The avatar just nodded. Senna kissed her daughter's forehead before she left Korra alone. as the door shut, Korra laid down to her bed forcefully. She's just nervous because of the thought that she will see Asami again. The girl she missed a lot. She sighed and stood up. Grabbed her things and walked over the door.

"Let's go Korra. Before we catch up the night." Tonraq said. Naga pushed her into boat because it looks like she was still doubting if she's ready to see her again.

"I can't believe it! Korra's returning here!" Bolin exclaimed excitedly. Mako rolled his eyes.

"She's just visiting us. They're not staying." Mako said. Bolin gave him a glare.

"Why do you seemed not excited about it? What kind of friend are you?" Bolin said to his brother sarcastically. The fire bender sighed.

"Of course I'm excited! It's just that you said that to me more than 10 times since we got here in the temple. A bit annoying little brother." Mako said. Bolin just snorted.

"Okay, time for snacks everyone! I think we're done. This is wonderful." Pema called the others outside while looking at the things they've done for Korra's arrival. The kids cheered and ran inside to eat their favorite snack- Sweet Buns. Everyone followed them inside and left the venue where they prepared for Korra. While they were eating their delicious snack, a white lotus soldier came in.

"Master Tenzin, there's a Water Tribe ship coming." The kids' smile went wide, as well as the others. They knew who it was.

"KORRA!" The three air bender kids yelled at the same time as they rushed outside to see the avatar once again. Tenzin and the others also rushed outside. As they arrived at the dock, they saw Korra's parents and Naga, smiling at them. Tenzin went forward to shake hands with the Chief.

"Good afternoon Chief Tonraq. Welcome back to Republic City and everyone was excited to see the avatar again." Tenzin said happily. Senna smiled and turned around to call her daughter.

"Sweetie! Come over here!" Senna called. Then slowly, Korra went out shyly but with a smile on her face. The kids ran to her and hugged her tight. Korra laughed a little and hugged them back. Tenzin and the others were a bit shocked because the last time they saw her, she hates the 'hug' thing.

"Korra! Air Scooter race now! The Loser will be punished!" Meelo exclaimed and started to form a ball of air underneath his body. Jinora and Ikki laughed and followed their brother with also a ball of air underneath their bodies.

"Hey! No fair!" Korra yelled while laughing. She too, made a ball of air and followed the kids to the temple. Everyone just watched them playing air scooter. Tenzin sighed in relief. The real Korra is back. Tenzin thought.

Everyone went back to the temple and saw the avatar and the kids laughing in front of the door.

"Korra!" Bolin shouted and ran to the avatar. Korra turned around and smiled. The earth bender quickly hugged his best friend. Korra returned the embrace.

"I missed you so much Korra." Bolin whispered. A smile was written in her lips.

"I missed you too, Bo." Korra replied. Bolin broke the hug and stared at Korra, his eyes widened. Korra raised an eyebrow.

"What?" Korra said. Bolin just smiled.

"Wow. You're really back." Bolin said. Korra knew what he meant so she jokingly punched Bolin's shoulder. Korra looked at everyone. And started to look around like she was looking for someone. Bolin smirked.

"Looking for Asami?" Said the smirking earth bender. Korra looked at him as if saying yes.

"Too bad she left with her father in a vacation in the Fire Nation. They left just this morning." Bolin explained. Korra's face saddened. Bolin noticed it and tapped her shoulder.

"Don't worry. She'll be gone just for a week. You can see her again." Bolin said teasing a little. Korra looked away.

"No. This is a mistake. I had my fiancé." Korra said coldly. Bolin scented an awkward situation so he tried to change the topic.

"Happy Birthday, Avatar Korra." Bolin said and bowed formally to Korra. The avatar also bowed at him-confused.

"H-How did you know it was my...?" Korra asked.

"Your father told us." Tenzin said and touched Korra's shoulder. The avatar smiled and hugged her mentor.

"Welcome back." Tenzin said. Bumi and Kya walked over to them.

"Enough of that. Let's go at the back of the temple." Bumi said and winked to his brother. Tenzin smirked and looked at Korra. The avatar exchanged looks to Tenzin and Bumi.

"What's going on?" Korra asked innocently.

"We have a surprise for you." Kya whispered to her ear. Korra smiled. All of them went at the back. Bolin covered Korra's eyes and Mako accompanied her while walking.

"You ready?" Bolin whispered. Korra nodded happily. Then slowly, the earth bender removed his hands on Korra's eyes. Korra had to cover her mouth because of surprise and happiness. There was a big banner saying, "Happy Birthday Korra. Lots of love from your Air Temple Island family and Team Avatar. ❤️"

Korra cried quietly. There was a big smile on her face. Her parents walked over to her and tapped her shoulder. The others went in front of her.

"Welcome back and Happy Birthday." They said then clapped their hands. Korra smiled.

"Thank you." Korra said still teary eyed. I wish she was here. Korra thought.
