I was sitting on the couch with Alex. Netflix was playing on the TV in front of us. We both had our legs stretched out on the coffee table, and I had my head on his chest.
We were home alone at the moment. My parents and little brother were out at a school function. Luckily, Alex and I had already graduated.
"You hungry?" He asked, and ran his fingers through my hair. I looked up at him with a serious face. Was that even a question?
"If you don't get on the phone right now and order a pizza, than I'll have to break up with you," I said. He laughed, and brought his feet down from the table. He took his phone out of his pocket, and called Domino's.
After getting off the phone, he played the next episode on Netflix. I sat up, and stared at him. I was trying to see how long it would take him to look back. He rolled his head over, so our faces were inches apart.
"I love you," he said quietly. He moved his hands to take my hand, and rubbed his thumb down my thumb. I looked at his lips, and whispered the same three words back.
He started to kiss me. I moved my arms to around his neck, and he pulled me closer. My shirt lifted a little in the back, as he kept pulling me closer.
We heard a car pull into the driveway, and we separated. My parents wouldn't really like walking into a scene like that. We heard the car doors slam shut, and then the front door open.
Alex looked over his shoulder, and smiled. "Hello, Mr. and Mrs. Williams! I hope you don't mind that we ordered a pizza. I'm paying of course, but it should be here in about ten minutes if you're hungry," Alex said. He basically charmed the pants off my parents.
"That's okay, Alexander. We had dinner before we went to the school with Andrew," my mom said as she took her coat off. My dad hung it up for her along with his own.
"Where is Andy?" I asked as I pulled myself up. My dad started upstairs, and my mom came to join us on the couch. I moved my feet so she would have somewhere to sit.
"He went out with his friends," she replied with a sigh. She put her feet on the coffee table, and closed her eyes.
"Is he in a lot of trouble?" I asked. Alex took my hand again, and ran his thumb over my knuckles.
"Well, we managed to talk it down to detention for two weeks. We didn't want to deal with him, so we let him go off with his friends. If he's not home by midnight, would you let us know?" She asked.
"Of course," Alex replied. My mom started up to bed, and I went to get her some aspirin. As I started up the stairs, the doorbell rang. I heard Alex get up from the couch.
When I started back down, Alex was still at the door. I walked up and put my hand on his shoulder.
"Is there a problem?" I asked, looking between Alex and the pizza guy.
"Nope," Alex said. He turned around, and put his hand on my hip. He whispered, "go get your parents," quickly. I took another look at the pizza guy, and then started upstairs again.
"Mom... D-" I started. I stopped because I heard a gunshot. My parents scrambled to their feet, and ran downstairs. I followed closely behind. My dad had a 'for emergencies' gun in the kitchen. He ran to grab that, and then went after the other guy.
My mom was the one who found Alex. He was outside on the lawn. It looked like he'd been dragged from the doorstep. I ran out there, and felt my eyes to start to fill with tears.
"Hayley," Alex whispered as he reached his hand out. I dropped to the ground, and took his hand. My mom left us for a moment to call the cops. "I need to tell you something."
"Anything," I whispered. I put both hands around his, and held them close to me. He had one hand on his stomach, and one inside my hands.
"I need you to listen to what I'm saying. It sounds crazy, but it's true," he said. His body was shaking, and he was groaning. I could almost feel the pain. I moved one hand to his face, and I ran it down his cheek.
"I'm not dying," he said. I started bawling at that point. He was going to give me his dying speech about how much he loved me, and how I'd find love again. I was too young to be going through this.
"No, please, no," I whispered. My tears were falling onto his face, and I'd wipe them away.
"I'll be back in the morning. I'm not leaving you," he said. His breathing started to slow, and there were sirens in the background. After eleven months of dating, he gave me the biggest secret of his life. Alex Gaskarth couldn't die.
"Bring me inside," he said. "If I go to the hospital, it'll only make it worse." I put my arm under his shoulders, and tried to call my mom over. We helped him upstairs, and laid him in my room.
When the cops came, we told them he'd left. Got in his car and drove away. Gun shot mustn't have done any damage. They seemed to believe us, and we pulled it off.
But if Alex didn't wake up in the morning, then what would we do?
