The next morning, we tried our connection again. Alex made a cut on his other hand, and it didn't appear on my hand. His healed up a little while later and we were ready to start the day. We got dressed, and went out with his friends.

We made it to the lobby without anyone getting injured. We took the two cars, and went to IHOP. We were all starving, so we ordered our drinks and food at the same time.

Alex's friends shared so many stories. Alex moved after high school, but he still visited them a lot. He spent spring breaks and summers there. It made me wonder why he didn't just move in with one of them. I wasn't complaining though, we wouldn't have met otherwise.

Alex and I sat by each other and the three boys sat on the other side. It was fine until the food came. There wasn't much space, but no one complained. We ate and talked, and then left.

When we got back to the hotel, we'd decided that we wanted to go to the pool. Alex was hesitant. I couldn't blame him, though. Everything we did at the hotel turned into a disaster.

I didn't have a swim suit, so I just used my bra and underwear. I put a shirt over top and called it good enough. Alex didn't have anything either, so he wore some shorts. The other guys were more prepared.

We got towels from the front desk, and then went into the pool area. It was an indoor pool and the room was way too warm. We all put our towels on one chair, and then got in.

The guys all jumped right in, but I opted for the steps. Alex swam over, and took my hands. He tried to pull me in, but I managed to get my hands away.

"Come on, get in!" He said. He laughed lightly, and the guys behind him splashed each other.

"I am in," I said. I went down another step, and looked at the guys. Everyone was looking at me. Before I could ask, someone pushed me into the pool. I panicked, and seemed to forget how swimming worked.

I felt someone's hands pull me up, and then help me over to the edge. I coughed, and couldn't get rid of the burning in my nose and throat.

"That's not funny, Jack," Alex scolded. I looked over and Jack was laughing. He was practically rolling around on the tiled floor from how "funny" it was. Alex helped me up onto the edge, where I sat and tried to breathe again.

"I'm sorry," Alex whispered. This was the only time I was taller than him, so he had to look up at me.

"It's not your fault," I said, glancing over at Jack. He'd stopped, and was getting back in the pool. The other two were still staring at me.

"What do you want me to do? Punch him? Hold him underwater?" Alex rattled off things, and I just laughed. It was sweet, I guess, that he wanted to protect me, but this was one of his friends.

"You don't have to," I said. Jack was out of the water again, and this time he belly flopped into the pool. "I don't think it'd do anything anyway."

After we were done in the pool, we went back to our room. We left his friends at the pool, which I was completely fine with.

"You don't like them," Alex said. We were both sitting on the bed. I was towel drying my hair, and he was looking at his phone.

"Your friends? No..." I couldn't even try to hide it. He knew, they probably knew, so it didn't matter.

"There was so much sarcasm there I don't even know what to do," he laughed. I was glad he wasn't taking it personally. There was just something about them that didn't hit me right.

"So do you wanna get back out on the road tomorrow, or stay a couple more days?" He asked. I had to think it over. There were benefits to both.

"Let's get back on the road. Oh, can we go to Texas?"

"If you wanna go to Texas, we'll go to Texas."

"Are you going to let me drive at all?"

"Probably not." We talked for a while longer until we decided that we wanted food again. We took a trip to Walmart because we needed to get a variety of things. We needed food that was easy for on-the-go; we needed travel sized toiletries and such; maybe some clothes.

We filled up one entire cart, and then headed to the checkout. My personal favorite thing in the cart was hair dye. Not only did I need to touch up my roots, but Alex thought it would be a fun idea if we both dyed our hair teal. I did not agree.

We settled down in the hotel for the last time. The TV was on some food network show, and I was in Alex's arms.
