I went out to get food, and talk to my parents again. When I got back to the room, it was empty. I sat on the bed and took my shoes off. I noticed a piece of paper on the bedside table, so I leaned over the bed, and grabbed it.
Having a beer with Jack on the roof xx
It read, but it wasn't Alex's handwriting. Alex and I used to write all over each other's arms. I graduated with 'ILY' and a heart written on my wrist from him. That was only a month or so after we started dating so it wasn't as serious as it could've been.
I put my shoes back on, and went back into the hallway. I took the elevator up to the last floor, and then had to take the stairs up to the roof. I took a deep breath as I prepared to open the door. It creaked as I pushed it open.
I looked around the corner, and there was no one. I looked around, and as my eyes settled on two people, there was a gunshot. I ran towards the other side of the roof. I stopped with some distance between Jack and myself.
Alex was standing there, holding his foot. Jack had shot him. But then he moved the gun up, and shot Alex in the head. I tried to run over to help him. I needed to get him back to the room. Jack pushed him off the back of the roof, and then threw the gun at me.
"Shoot me," he said. He put his arms out wide, and closed his eyes. I let the gun lay where it landed. "Come on, Hayley. I just killed your boyfriend, so shoot me."
He just stood there, with one eye open. He kept staring at me, and I tried to figure out what to do. I turned, and ran. I ran back to the door, but as I tried to open it, Rian came out. I turned around to try to run, but he grabbed me by the waist.
I kicked and punched, but I couldn't get away. Jack walked over with the gun, and I was sure he was going to kill me too. Jack was messing around, pulling different things. He raised it up, and looked straight.
"Don't!" I yelled. Jack lowered the gun, and laughed.
"I'm not going to shoot you," he said. Rian continued to carry me. He turned, and let me down in front of the stairs. He still had a grip on my wrist, so I couldn't take off. He was actually pressing something into my arm. The pain from that was the least of my worries, though.
Rian went first, and Jack was behind me with the gun. It was hard to walk down the stairs knowing that if I stumbled even a little bit, he would pull the trigger. I was gripping the railing so hard I thought I might break a finger.
We made it to the elevator, and Jack put the gun away. I was still sandwiched between the two as we rode the elevator down to my floor. Jack still had the gun away in case of someone walking by.
"Pack up your stuff. We're leaving in five minutes," Jack said as we walked in. Rian went and looked out the window, quickly. I gathered Alex and I's stuff. Jack laughed and said I wouldn't be needing it, but I didn't care.
I managed to leave a note for Alex. I had paper and a pen in my bag, and pretended to be folding my clothes. Jack + Rian took me. I left it poking out of the blanket on the bed.
We headed out with all our stuff. They put me in the back of their car with my bags. "Actually, can I go see... I just need a minute," I said. They let me go. Jack made a call, and Rian followed me. It was dark enough, and he was far enough away. I tried to ignore what was in front of me.
I managed to find one of Alex's jean pockets, and I put the hotel key card in there. I looked back, and Jack had his back turned. I looked over at Rian, and it was dark enough that I couldn't really see his face. I looked ahead of me, and the nearest streetlight was kinda far. I had to make a decision.
I started walking backwards, neither of them noticed. I still had to stay quiet, and I was afraid that if I ran, they'd hear me. I just kept walking, and hoping. I needed Alex to wake up, but if he did, they'd just kill him again.
I finally worked it up, and I ran. I turned and ran as fast as I could. I could hear Jack and Rian shouting, and then the car started. As I came to the front of the hotel, I saw Jack sitting in the car. I panicked, and felt like I couldn't breathe. Rian was probably right behind me.
I managed to make it back inside the hotel. I jumped on top of the check-in desk, and then jumped over to the other side. I quickly sat down behind it, and took my phone out of my pocket. I called the cops, and managed to stay hidden.
I talked to the cops, and they were going to search the area. Instead, I managed to get them to go up to the room where they were staying. Zack was the only one in, and he didn't seem to know what was going on.
I just needed more time for Alex to wake up.
