"They're out front," Alex informed me. He was pacing in the living room. I was sat on the couch with my feet on the coffee table.
"So what do we do?" I asked. He sat himself next to me on the couch, and looked deep in thought.
"We wait 'til dark," he said. He put his hands on his thighs, and ran them back towards him. "Are you sure you want to-"
"Yes," I replied without letting him finish. "You can't convince me to stay back."
"Have you even told your parents?" He asked. He looked at me with pain in his eyes. He hadn't heard from his parents in over a year.
"I will," I said as I took his hand. "About five minutes before we leave."
Alex stood up, and held his hand out to me. I rolled my eyes, and took his hand. We went upstairs to talk to my parents.
Alex started off by telling my parents about himself. He told them that he couldn't die, and that's why he was fine after being shot.
Then it was my turn to tell them about our future. They didn't really think it was a good idea for us to leave, but Alex jumped in. He told them about the danger to everyone if he stayed. We had to leave, to hide somewhere else.
They still didn't think it was a good idea for me to go, but we managed to convince them a little more.
While the garage door was shut, we packed up the trunk of my car. We went to bed, and got up in the middle of the night. My dad went and drove around the block, and waited for us. The people didn't move from the car in the front. They knew it wasn't Alex in the car.
The car was parked at the next street over. Alex and I went out the back, and ran across the lawns. I thanked my dad, and hugged him, and then we went our separate ways.
Alex drove through the night, and I fell asleep a couple times. Alex wasn't even tired. He kept insisting he was fine.
We just kept going. We didn't know where we were going, but we just needed to get out of there.
He started to act weird as the sun started to come up. There was something bothering him, but he wouldn't talk about it.
Alex groaned slightly. I could tell he was in pain, even if he wouldn't tell me. He moved one hand from the wheel to the side of his head.
"Hay, do you hear that?" He asked. He sounded like he was in pain. He groaned loudly, and closed his eyes. He managed to keep the wheel straight. He groaned again and moved his other hand to his head.
"Alex!" I screamed. I reached over and took control of the wheel. Alex sunk in his seat, and screamed in pain. I quickly unbuckled my seat belt, and moved to the corner of his seat. I put my foot on the gas, and drove. I had to get us to the next exit.
"Alex? Can you hear me? If you focus on me, the noise will go away, right? Focus on my voice, Alex," I said. I kept talking, but I got no response. I had a chance to glance behind me, and there was a trail of blood coming from his nose.
I got off at the next exit I saw. There was a hotel just off of the ramp, so I turned in there. I parked in a space, and moved back into my seat. I pulled Alex's upper body into my lap.
I lifted his arm and checked for a pulse. Of course, his heart was still beating. I took my shirt off, and wiped the blood off his face. I put my hands on his head and I could feel his head pounding.
I kissed him, and then moved him to the backseat. I had him laying down across the entire bench, and attempted to buckle him in. I left my bloody shirt with him, and got in the driver's seat.
I started out onto the highway again. I started talking out loud to Alex. I thought that maybe if I filled the silence, it would make things seem better.
I kept hoping he'd wake up, but he stayed still on the backseat.
