A/N: I just wanted to quickly say that I'm now updating on Friday's as well! I'm alternating between my two ongoing stories, and this one was updated last Friday. So if you missed that chapter, make sure you go read that one before this one. This Friday is my other story, Kids In The Dark, so if you read that one you get two updates this week.
Alex's Point of View
I felt my head hurting, and I knew what was happening. I started frantically looking through the boxes in the closet. I found some headphones, and hoped they were noise-cancelling. I slipped them over my ears, and the buzzing disappeared. I sighed, and started out to the girls.
Ally was lying on the couch, not moving, and Hayley was sitting on her legs on the floor. As I got closer to Hayley, she fell against the couch. I kneeled in front of her, and took my phone out of my pocket. I called my dad, but kept the headphones on.
"Dad, I need you to get home right now. We're in trouble," I said. I tried to explain that I couldn't hear him. I just hung up, and put my phone back in my pocket. I picked up Hayley, and carried her away. I had to hide the girls so I could make sure that they wouldn't get taken.
With the girls hidden away, I grabbed a small gun and started outside. There was a car parked across the street, and it was obvious that Jack was sitting in the driver's seat. I pulled the headphones off as I walked across the street.
"Ah, Gaskarth. Long time, no see," Jack said. I wasn't going to waste time. I pulled the gun out, and aimed it at Jack.
"Get out," I said. Jack put his hands in the air. He didn't reach and open the door.
"How are you even conscious right now, Gaskarth?"
"Quit calling me that."
"Sorry, Gaskarth."
"Get out of the car," I said again. I was getting frustrated, and my grip on the gun was hurting my hand. Jack slowly moved one of his hands down, and opened the door. He got out of the car, shut the door, and leaned against the car.
"Where's Hay-Hay?" Jack taunted. He sure was cocky for someone with a gun to their head.
"She's not here."
"Don't lie to me Alex."
"I've never told a lie," I said. I moved the gun slightly because my hand was hurting so bad.
"Then shoot me already," Jack yelled. I wasn't expecting that from him. I had expected him to run, or try to take me. I just couldn't figure out why he came along and unarmed. Did he really think he could just flip a switch and it would kill us all?
"How did you find me?"
"Why should I tell you?"
"Because we used to be friends, Jack. We were best friends, and then-"
"And then you moved away."
"I visited as much as I could. My family moved, and I couldn't just live on my own. I was fourteen years old. Do you even remember how good of friends we were? Or are you too far gone?"
I genuinely wanted to have the old Jack back. The one I knew from middle school. That guy wouldn't ever be able kidnap or shoot someone.
"Things have changed," Jack said. He managed to grab the gun from my hand, and point it at my head. "We can do this the hard way or the easy way. Hard way is I shoot you and then go tear apart your house looking for Hayley. The easy way is you show me where she is, and then you both end up in the car."
"Over my dead body, literally."
"Wow, how long have you been waiting to say that?"
I knew I just had to drag it out a little longer. My parents had to be coming home soon. The stare down seemed to last forever, until a car turned onto our street. Jack looked, and started to panic. While he was distracted, I stole the gun back. I shot him, and shoved him in the backseat of his car. My parents pulled up, and we all went inside.
"Ally?" My dad yelled as he walked inside.
"I hid her and Hayley," I said as I walked in after him. He followed me to the hiding spot, and we both carried the girls out. I put Hayley in our bed, and my dad put Ally in her bed.
Then, my dad drove Jack's car, and I drove my dad's. He drove to a lake, and pushed the car into it. Then he got in the car with me, and I drove him back home.
"I can't believe I just did that," I said. I was sitting on the floor with my back against the couch. My parents were sitting on the couch, trying to watch the news.
"It was self defense. Don't stress yourself out too much," my dad said. He didn't even look at me or try to comfort me. I hadn't actually killed anyone, especially someone I was close to. I was always the one dying.
I got up, and blocked the TV. I glanced at my parents, then left. I needed a break from my parents already. I wanted Hayley to be alive so I could rant or at least kiss her.
I just wanted the day to be over. I wanted to get into bed, pull the covers over my body, and put my arms around Hayley. Unfortunately, it wasn't time for bed and Hayley wasn't conscious.
