Female Reader x Male Monster
Every summer your parents packed you onto a plane and sent you to your Grandmother's place. For most kids, it would be a fate worse than death to go to the countryside where there is nothing to do expect help grandma garden. Except for you. The first summer you visited, yes, it was a bummer. For almost half the summer you were bored out of your mind sitting in front of the oscillating fan.
Then one day when you were out catching fireflies in the tall grass you saw him. He was watching you from the trees, his eyes glowing in the dark night. You approach him, staring back at him.
"Who are you?" You ask, tilting your head.
"Who are you?" He mocks you back.
"I asked you first."
"I lived here first."
You're stumped for a second, staring blankly at him has his tail flicks back and forth. "Do you know my grandma then? Maybe even my grandpa? He died before I knew him, so if you knew him first then I'll believe you."
He sniffs, a slight chuckle leaving his throat. "You're funny."
After that, you two become inseparable. You both play all day in the woods. Sometimes he looks like a normal boy, other times he looks like a small fox, sometimes a mix of both. He shows you his treasure collection and how he tricks people in the small village. You share your snacks and tea with him, sometimes falling asleep on his belly in the warm sun.
Your grandmother doesn't understand why you're crying so hard when she's putting you in the car to go home. You want to say goodbye but she doesn't understand to whom you wish to say goodbye. You think he will hate you when you return.
The next year when you come back you go to look for him, searching in the places you played before. You start to cry when you can't find him and appears, jumping out of the bushes and tackling you, licking your face all over as you cackle happily.
Every year you come back and see him, you spend your summers with him, growing up with him, and anxious to see him the rest of the year. He grows taller than you, able to carry you on his back to climb trees. He gives you your first kiss the night before you have to leave.
"I promise," he whispers, holding your hands, "I will always be here for you. No matter what I will protect you!"
You nod to him, "me too, I promise."
Your grandmother died that winter and you couldn't return in the summer. Several summers come and go until you are finally able to return. Your parents were confused when you asked to be given your grandmother's old house. They swore up and down all you did was complain about going there in the summers. They had no idea.
You arrive at the house, opening up the doors and windows to air it out. You notice on the porch there are muddy paw prints everywhere and you think of him. When it gets dark out you set out a tray with sweets and tea for two. You sit and wait, watching the fireflies float from the tall grass.
Then you see him.
His eyes glowing in the distance, brighter than the fireflies. You lips part as he comes closer, staring in awe at how beautiful he has become. He's somehow taller, his chest is bare and covered in white fur. His fox face is handsome and deep red. He now has nine tails that flicker like blue flames at the end of each tip.
"You came back," he murmurs.
You nod, "I promised."
He kneels down, kissing you and you touch his chest. Soft fur on a brick wall is what he feels like.
