Female Reader x Male Monster
A few weeks ago, you made a mistake - nothing horrible or ghastly. Just an honest mistake. You went on vacation to visit family back in Scotland. While there, you took a lot of walks on the shore, and one afternoon you found a coat. You searched the beach for its owner, and that was your mistake.
It turns out the man was a Selkie. You'd never really believed the stories, because that's all they were, stories. Filip was instantly smitten with you, and he accepted your proposal - because that's what giving him the coat meant. You proposed! You tried to explain your way out of it, but Filip was so excited about the engagement, something within you caved in. It wasn't like you were going to get a partner the normal way, and he was pretty cute.
Filip was tall with thick arms, strong legs, and a round belly and buttocks, and he was extremely handsome. His hair was long and shiny, mingled grey and white to match his coat. His entire body was covered in freckles. The only reason you knew this is because he walked around half-naked quite a bit. Outside the water he was always hot, so he strutted around with only his bottom half covered, sometimes in nothing but underwear.
You left home alone, but you returned with Filip in hand. It was strange getting used to someone being at your house all the time. You've lived alone for so long that now having another presence in your home is shocking, especially one like Filip's. He's exuberant and lively, words you would never use to describe yourself.
You make quilts at a fabric store. The quilts are really your main source of income, and one good quilt has you set for the month. But you love the store and the people there. The little old ladies who have their knitting circles and sewing clubs have become very dear to you.
"Did I see you shopping the other day with a handsome young man?" one of them asks.
You nearly drop the sewing kit you're carrying and turn to look at her with surprise. "You sure it was me you saw?" you ask shakily.
"I'm fairly certain." She smiles and pats the arm of the woman beside her. "Look at her, being modest. The young man she had with her was really quite handsome."
You still aren't sure about your engagement to Filip. After all, he's a sort of monster. Is that right? Would 'monster' be the correct way to classify him? You can't decide, but you're having a hard time getting over a few hurdles. You feel like you don't deserve it. Like they say, Filip is very handsome, too handsome for someone like you.
"Big boy, too," the woman chuckles. "Looked like he could break a bed any night."
The circle breaks into titters over the bawdy joke while you narrowly make your escape. It isn't that you don't like Filip, far from it. In your time with him you've really grown to like him. He's sweet and tender with you, and you feel safe with him. It's the feeling of being undeserving that you couldn't shake. Filip is so great, he deserves someone who can be his equal. In your mind, that isn't you.
At home, Filip keeps things clean and cooks dinner for you. He's excited when you come through the door, greeting you with big hugs and long, soft kisses. You could almost fall for those kisses, but then those awful thoughts always creep in.
"You don't have to do this all the time," you say gently to him. "You're free to do whatever you want here."
"But I like taking care of you," he says brightly. His green eyes sparkle as he looks at you. "Is that okay?"
You press your lips into a firm line. "Of course it is. But if you don't want to, or have something else you would prefer to do, I'm saying you should do it."
He tilts his head to the side and looks at you. "Is there something wrong?"
You shake your head quickly. "No, of course not. I just want you to know that, whatever you choose, you should do it for you."
