Female Main Character x Male Monster

Not long after the mess with Lady Tabitha, I was hired by none other than Lazarus Bean himself to find a ring that Lady Tabitha had in her possession. Apparently, it had been what Marv's roommate had been trying to retrieve when he was infected with her magic.

It took a while, especially since her house had been dragged underground by the willows. But finally, with help from both Marv and my grandfather, we were able to find the ring. It was small, engraved with Fae script on the inside. Somehow it had wound up in possession of a Gnome who was more bravado than common sense. He had bragged everywhere about he had tricked Lady Tabitha, still addled with dementia, into giving him many of her most expensive possessions.

"All I had to do was pretend to be a cat!" He cackled in the bar, surrounded by people who would rather chuck him in the river than look at him.

Luckily, all it took for me was for Marv to stand in proximity to him, and he handed over the ring with nary a fuss.

To be honest, I was in no hurry to give the ring back to Lazarus, so it sits in my desk drawer until I grew sick of looking at it. Today was that day.

"Just wait in the lobby," I tell Marv as we walk through the Goblin Market.

"Why?" Marv asks.

"I'm just giving him back his ring," I reply. "I don't need you scaring him today."

Marv scoffs, he's been working with me ever since the Lady Tabitha incident. It's been nice having him as my familiar. He's been a wonderful friend. But my feelings for him reach beyond just that, and it scares me. He's my familiar, my confidant, and I don't want to lose him because of some feelings that may go away. It isn't worth it.

We walk into Lazarus' building, and Gumdrop is sitting behind the desk. She doesn't even look up, she merely calls into Lazarus, and a door opens.

Gumdrop points to the door. "You can go in now."

I look up at Marv, "it shouldn't be too long. Just sit down."

Gumdrop's eyes bug, and she stands up. "You can't leave him here!"

"Why not?" I ask, breezing past her and through the door.

Lazarus is sitting behind his desk when I walk in. He looks up at me and sneers. He stands up, setting something in his drawer.

"Where's your muscle?" He asks as he strides towards me.

"He's outside," I tell him, removing my hands from the pockets of my coat. It's not been since my last dealing with Lazarus, no matter how many times I've tried to avoid him since dealing with Lady Tabitha. Hard to believe that was all a year ago.

"I'd much rather see you than that revigored grandfather of yours," Lazarus says with a curled lip. "What the fuck do you want now, young Magnus."

As much as I love being called young Magnus (I really don't), I do enjoy having my grandfather back in action, even if he is a revived thirty-year-old. I toss a small bag at Lazarus, and he catches it.

"I found what you were looking for," I say with a smirk.

He stares at me like I just shit on the floor and he opens up the bag. Inside is a long, gold chain with the small ring at the end. "Shit," he whispers, threading the gold chain through his fingers. He looks back up at me, and I give him the biggest, smuggest grin I can muster.

He scoffs and clutches the ring in his fist. "Oh fine," he walks around the back of his desk. He opens his drawer and slams a stack of money on the desktop. "Deal's a deal," he grumbles under his breath.
