I wake up early every day, just before sunrise when everything is still calm and quiet. Inside the castle, though, things have only just started. The staff is already getting busy and I am not the first to stir, not even by a long shot. I get up and give myself a quick wash before I dress and head out the door. I go directly to the kitchen where the tray is waiting on me.

It's a long way from the kitchen to the prince's bedchamber. I take a lift from the staff floor and up into the quiet, dark corridor where the prince's room is. I am the only one allowed to enter this hallway until noon when the prince fully wakes up for his day. As his personal attendant, I have certain clearance that other members of the royal staff don't. I attend to the prince in the mornings, bringing him his breakfast and cleaning his room while he eats. I prepare his bath and help him bathe, then help him get dressed. I attend to his closet, keeping it organized and easy to search, although I'm really the only one who goes inside. I make his bed every day as well, which is not something he requests, but I know he likes.

Blumiere is the Crown prince over the Pegasus and the lands of Braewood, a kingdom built high above the clouds where the Pegasus can fly. Humans like me had been rescued from the cruel mountain peaks and given a place in Braewood where we could live alongside the Pegasus. Saelmere Castle is where I live and work, I had been born in these walls and grew up here. I have known Prince Blumiere all my life, and it had been his request I served as his attendant.

I slip inside his room with the breakfast tray and I park it by his table. I open one set of curtains so I can see what I am doing. I set it up, placing his breakfast on the table and slicing his apple and peeling his orange. I then pour his coffee, adding the dash of whipped cream with cinnamon he so enjoys.

I go across the room to finish opening the curtains and I gaze out over the horizon. The towers of the Saelmere Castle rise above the clouds and the mountain peaks so only the Pegasus can reach them. The castle is built from the crystal found in the mountains, so when the sun hits it just right, everything glows in a radiance I've never seen elsewhere.

I then go over to Blumiere's bed, where the canopy has been drawn tight. I slip my fingers into the curtains and hear a dark growl from within.

"You open those and I will kill you," the prince snarls from within.

"Oh?" I snap my hand to my waist. "And if you kill me, who will attend to you then? Who knows you better than I? You kill me, you'll suffer for months until someone else can learn you even half as well as I know you."

"It is a risk I am willing to take."

I scoff. "And who will you complain to in the meantime? My ghost?"

"I assume you would haunt me. You're cruel like that."

I smirk at the curtains and hook my fingers so that glimmers of light pour into the bed. I hear Blumiere's frustrated huffing and puffing from within, as well as him pulling his blankets over himself.

I open the curtains and look down at him huddled under the covers. "That's not the only thing I do for you, you know?" I crawl onto the bed, inching closer to him. "I do so much more than just attend to a spoiled, bratty prince."

Blumiere stirs under the covers.

I run my hand up his leg and thigh along the down comforter. "I also take care of a needy, romantic man whom I adore."

"Who might that be?" Blumiere chuckles.

I rip back the comforter and gaze into his beautiful face. I dip down, kissing him and tangling my fingers in his long hair. He wraps his strong arms around me, pulling me down into the bed with him.
