Female Reader x Male Monster (both cis)
The sound of rain wakes you from a deep slumber. Shuffling away the blankets, you sit up in bed to see that dawn has come in thick rain clouds. You rub your eyes and check your phone, seeing you've woken earlier than usual. As you stir, Oscar's tail begins to move, coiling up around your leg. "It's cold," Oscar grumbles.
"It's raining out," you answer. Setting your phone back down, you crawl back under the blankets and snuggle up to Oscar's back. He sighs and relaxes back into the bed. "It's supposed to be stormy all day."
"Is that why you woke up?" Oscar mumbles sleepily.
"Kind of." You kiss his bare shoulder, and the tip of his tail tightens around your ankle. "It's still really early. Go back to sleep."
Due to quarantine and the library closing for the foreseeable future, Oscar has invited you to come move in with him. So far, things have been okay. You've stocked up on groceries, and been nesting together quite comfortably. Oscar has been teaching from home, and you've been helping him put together his online class packets. Thanks to his connections, you're able to hold story readings for his students on the weekends. Still, some days feel like a struggle. Oscar isn't used to not teaching in person, being hands-on with his students and able to help them immediately. A lot of the students, too, are having a hard time learning from home.
Now that it's colder out, Oscar has a noticeable lack of energy. He's always cold, so he's pulled out his massive collection of blankets, sweaters, and gloves. He's also started to wrap around you at night to seek warmth, which you actually kind of enjoy.
"I can get up and go make us that new tea I ordered," you tell him.
"Mmm, not now. Stay here for a bit." He clutches your hand tight. "I'm cozy."
You kiss his shoulder again. "It is nice this morning, even with the rain." You snuggle close to his back, placing your knees just below his rear. "Any big plans for today?"
"I have some tests to go over, but that's all." He turns his head back. "What about you?"
"I was thinking about going to the grocery store to pick up a few things. But I may just wait out the rain. I didn't need anything important, anyway."
He squeezes your hand. "What did I tell you about your little trips out?"
"I know, but we need more broth and stock." You rest your chin upon his shoulder. "I was also trying to find you a birthday gift."
Oscar chuckles. "I told you not to worry about that."
You smile and kiss his ear. "It's your birthday, I can't just ignore it. And now that we can't see anyone or go anywhere, I just wanted something special for you on the big day."
"It's a day, and there is no size to it." He pats your hand on his chest. "Besides, now that you're here, I have everything I'll ever need in this house."
"It wasn't a thing, exactly. I was planning a really nice dinner."
He smirks. "Oh? Food, you say?"
You giggle and kiss him. "I know the way to your heart by now, having seen the way you unhinged your jaws to eat that bear claw I brought you."
Oscar rolls onto his back, pulling you on top of him. "That's a stereotype." He taps the tip of your nose. "I merely open my mouth."
"You eat like a teenage boy," you giggle. "But that's okay. I still have time. I can plan for this big meal of yours."
His hands rub up the small of your back. "Oh, really? What were you planning."
"A surprise."
He breaks into a smile. "I don't like surprises. Too many in my life as it is."
