Female Reader x Female Monster
The Miss Fortune is a casino and hotel on Cornerstone Island. It's just one of many establishments that the Unseelie Court has opened in the modern world. It was very surprising when, several years back, members of the Unseelie Court came forth to express their interest in integrating with modern society. The businesses they opened include a publishing firm, multiple casinos, a movie production house, and finally a law firm - which is where you work.
Specifically, you work for the Miss Fortune in house, dealing with the day-to-day business of the place, serving as a legal advisor in business plans, and signing off on almost everything. It's a huge step up from your last job, where you were nothing but a glorified intern. You graduated at the top of your class and had high hopes, but being so young you were often overlooked. It wasn't until a member of the Unseelie law firm sniped you that your skills were put to good use.
You're still a low ranking member of the law firm, but many of the higher-ups have their fingers in much more dubious pies. The Miss Fortune is a means to an end, not their true objective. As long as the place runs smoothly and you do your job diligently, there is no reason for the bosses to even visit the Miss Fortune.
Like most people, you have your doubts about the Unseelie. After all, for centuries they kept themselves separate from the rest of the world. Their history of malicious deeds also hindered their early attempts to integrate and build businesses, but their money eventually won over the right people. No surprise there. Hell, you often feel you've sold your soul for the money they seem to be throwing at you. You are nothing more than a babysitter to the casino at times, and yet you are paid like you're keeping a secret. You aren't. In fact, most of the time the business is quite boring - just the usual casino rigmarole.
Of course, you deal with the Unseelie too - it's hard not to. One of your coworkers is one of them, and although there is a certain creepiness about her, she is a diligent worker and often fun to work with. Talida also trusts you enough to let some Unseelie secrets slip.
It's well known that iron makes fairies weak. To work around this, the Unseelie have formed a rather unnatural alliance with the Dwarves to forge the materials for their buildings. The Unseelie have also fashioned suits of a porcelain-like substance that they wear outside their new territories. Talida has even shown you the armor, and you marvel at the beauty of it.
Talida usually deals with business that needs to go to the head office, which is in a secret location. The only people allowed to go there are Unseelie, or a few high-ranking mortal officials the Unseelie deem worthy enough to go. She has no illusions about being a glorified go-between.
You were recently seeing someone, and you thought it was getting serious, but out of the blue they break up with you over dinner. Disheartened and a little beaten, you go into work the next day trying to hide the fact you are heartbroken. Although you can't hide much from the Unseelie - they see everything.
As you go through the day's work, Talida comes into your office and sits down on the edge of your desk. "Tell the truth," she says with a sharp grin. "Something happened, didn't it?"
You sigh heavily. "I don't want to talk about it, Talida."
Talida faux-pouts. "Come now. You can tell me anything." She slides her hand over her chest, and her sharp, back nails click across her buttons.
"Really?" You give her a skeptical look. "I can?"
She smiles, and her long white hair falls off her shoulder. "You're heavy of heart and seem to need good news. Tell me, and perhaps you'll be rewarded."
