A recent storm had hit Blackforte, causing a lot of damage to buildings around the seafront area. Your place had been hit quite hard, taking on water damage on the ground floor and the front porch had been totally obliterated by your favorite tree. To your surprise, your favorite tree being uprooted had hurt the worst out of everything that had happened.

"I'm having a hard time finding someone who can do the repairs," you lament as you sit in the diner. The room is packed, filled with people who were also hit by the storm. "Everyone else is already scooped up and doing other jobs. The wait time is...unbearable."

Your sister, Sarah, looked up from her plate. "You could watch youtube videos and do it yourself?"

"Why is that your answer to everything?" You huffed.

"Could be worse," Sarah seemed more interested in her breakfast plate. "At least the damage isn't too bad. We can buy new furniture."

You grumbled under your breath. "Why aren't you taking this seriously? This is your home too. Not only that, you're going on that work trip and escaping all the mess!"

"Hey, it's serious to me. My money is going down the drain, same as yours." She wagged a fork covered in hash browns in your face. "And I told you I would cancel the trip."

You shook your head. "No. Don't," you huffed. "It's a good opportunity. I'm just freaking out."

Sarah smiled. "You'll find someone who can do repairs. Surely there's someone looking for work who could do it. I bet there's lots of eager beavers out there looking to repair our dam. Why not just put an offer out online?"

"I'm sure you'd love to come home to a murder mystery too," you grumbled.

"You know I would. But now, there's this app that's got all these options for home repairs and remodeling and everyone on it is vetted and reviewed. It's like Amazon for construction workers."

You screwed your mouth into a tight line. "I guess I don't really have any other option. I'll try it."

Sarah returned to her food with more vigor. "Atta girl, getting into the modern era! Put down those yellow pages and pick up the sum of world's knowledge in your pocket!"

The app was called Honeydew, and it had all sorts of options you could go through. You could make a listing and have people bid on it, or you could hire someone from their profile. You made a listing, hoping to get a bargain. But after a few days, only one profile had responded to it.

"They have good reviews, but they've only done a few jobs." You're talking to yourself, laying back on your bed in the empty house. Sarah was gone, and the decisions were left to you. You huffed and sat up out of bed, sick of the clutter upstairs as everything was moved to the ground floor.

"I'll just accept." You grumbled as you pushed the button accepting the bid. A few minutes later, you received a message from the profile.

"Is it okay if I come by to assess everything? It'll help me estimate how long it will take and how soon I can start. Thank you for accepting my bid as well." They asked.

"Yes, of course." You responded, along with your address. "I'll be home all day."

There was no response after that, and your guts began to churn. At least you had a neighbor close by who could hear your screams if it came to that. Sometime later, you heard a motorcycle blaring down the road. Motorcycles scared you ever since you were little, and hearing them just triggered that fight or flight response. You'd been trying your best to get over such a silly fear, after all, they didn't affect your daily life at all, but those loud sounds made your skin crawl. The sound was growing louder, it sounded like it was right outside your window. You peered out and saw it, a huge dark blue motorcycle was parked by your car.
