Lucien's P.O.V.
While waiting for breakfast to finish cooking, I start thinking about my Grandfather and His edict commanding I never reveal my divinity to anybody. Somehow my father broke His rules and divulged himself to my mother, so why can't I do the same with Bella? I'm coming to realize she is everything I never knew I needed. I always regarded relationships as a trap where two people made each other miserable...eventually. But now I've started thinking in terms of "us" rather than "me". So strange to feel this way toward her after less than twenty four hours.
As I'm plating up scrambled eggs and bacon, I keep casting furtive glances at her beside me filling up her own plate. Her scent is intoxicating, I want to run my hands through her thick hair and explore every inch of her luminous skin. From her glances and willingness to touch me, I know how easy it will be to seduce her. Problem is, I can imagine her reaction if my confession takes place after we have sex. There would literally be Hell to pay. I sigh loudly and pour strong coffee into a mug, then I sit down next to Bella on the ground. I'm not sure how to start the conversation I need to have with her...'Hey, Bella, just so you know, my Dad is the Devil, my grandfather is God and I have powers nobody else on Earth has. Oh, and...just in case you were wondering, I'm immortal, I'm super strong and I have wings, wanna see them?' Yeah right. Run for the hills Bella, I would not blame you a bit.
I glance at my phone I picked up when I retrieved some clean underwear...no reception. Guess I cannot call my Dad for advice. Somehow he was able to sway my Mom into believing in him, and I wonder how he told her, wonder how she handled it. I start cursing myself for never bothering to ask. Mom has been a sore subject between us for a while now.
I'm pulled out of my reverie by Bella who is scraping her food onto my plate. She gives me a small smile and murmurs, "I cannot finish and I don't want to waste it." I smile back and nod, I can always eat. Our friends sit companionably beside us, talking about plans for the day. We settle on finding a good place to swim in the river. At my questioning look, Bella nods. I guess she wants to hang with her friends for a while and put off our conversation. Sounds good to me since I need time to figure out what I'm going to say to her.
We head into our perspective tents to grab our swim gear, speakers, sunscreen, and towels. My towel is full of dirt, blood and debris from Bella sleeping on it last night, but I take it anyway with the intent of washing it out and hanging it to dry while we're in the water. Bella hands it to me with a sheepish grin and a soft apology, and I grasp it, scraping my fingers over hers. She stops what she's doing and looks up at me through her lashes. Crap, I can't stop the flood of desire that surges through me. I wrap an arm around her lower back and lower her gently to the floor of our tent. She goes willingly, stabilizing herself on my shoulders, and hooks her legs around my waist while I kiss her deeply. 'Don't take this too far' I warn myself, 'she will hate you later. Besides, you already told her you are unwilling to take this past kissing.' Okay subconscious, but just so you know, I'm only partially listening because my desire for her far outweighs your proclamation, and I have Bella softly moaning under me.
"Do you have a condom?" she asks me shyly, and a light bulb goes off in my head...of course. Thank you Grandfather! Since I do not have a condom, I can stop this before it goes too far without hurting her feelings, or making her doubt her sexuality and my attraction to her. "I'm sorry, I don't," I tell her quietly, watching her expression closely for a sign that she doesn't care. Thankfully, she does.
She nods, looking disappointed, but then smiles. "It's okay, we will just have to wait until we get back to civilization."
Oh Bella, you have no idea how difficult that is going to be for me, but I just nod and say, "The buildup makes the finish line so much more rewarding." She chuckles and let's me help her to her feet. We exit the tent and follow our friends to the water.
