Bella's P.O.V.

Lucien's mother is so ethereal and kind, I feel immediately at ease with her. She reminds me a lot of my mother, always stepping in to make people feel welcome and comfortable. Luciens' father is in the kitchen, and he still makes my heart stop for a few beats. I know he's not the monster he's portrayed as being, but he is still the Devil. 'Get it under control girl,' I tell myself, walking into their exceptionally appointed kitchen. Wow. Everything is stone and stainless steel, top of the line appliances and spotlessly clean. I think two of my kitchens could fit into this one.

When Lucien's Mom makes introductions and asks if they can call me Bella, my heart melts a little. I bet she brought humor and love into Sam and Lucien's days, lightening their lives with every smile, every wink, every trill of laughter. How dark they're existence must have been when she died. I suppose Lucien isn't nearly as reticent as his father, but maybe he was before we started dating. I don't remember a particularly effusive Lucien, and Trish's description of him as emotionally stunted, silent and broody is pretty much a bulls-eye description of his father. Maybe Kate and I are both what these two men/angles/demons need, because God seems to know what He is doing when He brought us together.

Speaking of said angel/Devil, he's holding his hand out for me to take. Yikes! Okay, I can do this. I just thanked him for his participation in apprehending my assailants. Was that only a few hours ago? Is this what my life is going to be like now? Major events becoming overshadowed by even bigger events? I might have to become immortal just so I can handle it all. I take his large warm hand and he pulls me against him, wrapping his arms around my shoulders. When he speaks, his warm breath cascades over my ear and a sense of calm overtakes me. For a moment, I don't listen to what he's saying, I just stand in the Devils' embrace and wonder how I got here. Then I hear him say I must have a million questions. When I look up at his face, he is smiling gently down on me.

I step away from him and nod. "I do, but I honestly don't even know where to start."

"Mmm," Sam says, gesturing for his wife. She goes to him and he embraces her, kissing her softly. I have to smile at the loving gesture, he seems so much more relaxed and serene, not emotions I would expect from the Devil. "Let us know when you need some answers," he tells me, switching his full attention to the lovely woman in his arms.

I feel Lucien wrap his arms around me, and the four of us stand quietly in the kitchen, making out with our other halves. I'm not embarrassed when Lucien starts kissing me. I've kissed him in front of his father before, and besides, his parents are not paying us any attention. When Lucien leans back and asks if I'd like to see the rest of the house, I nod, but before we leave the kitchen, Lucien's father says, "Bella, would you do me the kindness of a favor?"

Oh shit. What can I possibly do for the Devil? I know better than to piss him off. I believe Lucien's Uncles were brought to protect their father from Samael's wrath once he found out Catherine was being kept from him against her will. "Umm," I clear my throat to mask my insecurities, "sure, what can I do for you?" Please ask me something I can help you with. Please! I don't have a lot of talents, this is finals week at school...oh no...what could he possibly want?

When I look over at him, I can tell he's been staring at me. He has to know I am having an internal meltdown as his gaze pierces mine. I can feel my pulse skyrocket, ohshit, ohshit, ohshit, what does he want me to do? Without taking his eyes off me he says, "Would you be so kind as to escort Catherine around town. The technological advancements made in her absence will be overwhelming, and I feel a woman's perspective will help her assimilate better than I can."

Wha...that's all? Oh, I can do that! So I smile at Samael as my heart rate decreases and tell him, effusively, "I would love to!"

"How about tomorrow?" he asks, before I can step away with Lucien.

I look at a smiling Catherine and then back at Samael, "Yeah, sure! Umm, I'll get Lucien to bring me home in the morning so I can collect my car, then I'll come back and take you out, okay?" I ask, looking away from the penetrating stare of Lucien's father to his mother.

"That would be lovely, thank you Bella," Catherine says gently.

When we walk out of the kitchen, I turn to Lucien and say, "Do you want to spend time with your Mother right now since I'll be with her tomorrow? I promise, I don't mind at all."
