Lucien's P.O.V.
My head is killing me. Every time I think I'm okay and I try to sit up, I collapse in agony. What the Hell did Azriaphel hit me with? I lay on the floor with my Uncle Raphael and Grandfather next to me. Every once in a while, they would look down at me and ask how I am doing. I return their questions with a few of my own. What day is it? How long have I been here? Bella must be worried about me.
Bella.
"Grandfather," I call to Him, wincing when my voice echos in my head. When He leans over me I say more quietly, "You need my father, but you don't know how to bridge the broken lines of communication, am I right?"
"That's right Lucien. My connection with him has been terminated because I've been divested of my staff, and the immersion room prevents me from emitting of any type of signal." He's quiet for a moment, lost in thought. "Samael will come, but since his banishment was made with the threat of death if he returns, he's going to be extremely reticent." I watch my Grandfather shake his head in regret. "I never let him know he could return if his intentions were pure. So stupid, so reckless, I acted on such impulse and anger. Now look where we are..."
"My father will come. He hates Michael, especially after what he did to my mother. You may not be able to send any form of communication, but I can," I say, slowly sitting up from my prone position. "Bella isn't just my girlfriend, she's my soul-mate, Grandpa."
He looks sharply at me. "Are you saying what I think you're saying?" He asks me in bewilderment.
I try to nod, but the pain in my head prevents me, so I squint my eyes and grimace when I say, "Yes, we've communicated telepathically before."
I can hear a murmur of excitement pass through the cavernous room. "When did this occur?" Uncle Raphael asks, a glimmer of hope lighting up in his eyes.
I need to lie back down, and when I get comfortable, I begin telling the story of Bella and I to a silent room full of angels listening intently to my every word. I recount how we met, how I helped her in the woods, how she helped me without even knowing it. I describe her assault and how my father and I sought out her assailants, bringing them to jail. I chronicle how one of them escaped and abducted Bella in front of my mother. I tell them I prayed for Grandfather to grant me permission to kill them before they killed her. When I didn't receive an answer I assumed I had license to do it, and told everyone how I sent those four men to Hell. When Bella was held prisoner in the trunk of their car is when we realized we could speak telepathically. I let her know I was there, tired to alleviate her fears, and it worked somehow. I can hear the quiet breathing of everyone in the room. "I can try to make the connection again, but I have to wait until the pain in my head stops threatening to kill me." I say loud enough for everyone to hear, but soft enough to not split my head in two.
Uncle Raphael bends over me and says, "Let's see if the effects of the Xerpherol have worn down enough that I can help you."
"Xerpherol?" I ask.
"It's a neuro-catalysts that effectively shuts down your brain activity by inducing a flood of neurotransmitters...it's how most of us ended up here, we were attacked with Xerpherol," he tells me, leaning over and placing his hands on either side of my face. He looks down, concentrating, and I feel some of the pain in my head dissolve away. When he leans back, he asks, "Better?"
I nod slightly, "Infinitesimally...the pain is like an elephant stomping on my head, so I doubt I can concentrate enough to establish a connection with Bella." Raphael clenches his jaw and tries again. This time I can see a white, healing light behind my eyes, filtering through my neurons and soothing them.
"How about now?" Raphael asks a little out of breath.
"Much better. The pain is tolerable, thank you," I tell him, sitting up slowly. Then I look at my Grandfather. "I think I can establish a connection now. What do you want me to tell Bella to convey to my father?"
