Bella's P.O.V.
I know I just heard Lucien in my head, didn't I? I search frantically for him in my mind, but I can't sense him anywhere. Samael walks over to me and holds my hands in his, closing his eyes. Before I can say anything he tells me, "I will try to give you some of my powers so you can establish a stronger connection with Lucien. Concentrate and try again."
I close my eyes and picture Lucien's smile, the way he moves, how he holds me close while we sleep, and suddenly there is a strange zing in my head, like my neurons have just been unzipped and are open to suggestion. "Lucien?" I say again.
Tears start leaking from my eyes as our connection is established. He tells me what's going on, explains what he needs from his father, makes sure I understand exactly what to say to him. Then he tells me he loves me, asks me to have faith, implores me keep him in my thoughts in case he needs to contact me again. I tell him I understand, that all I have been doing is thinking about him. I tell him to be careful and our connection is lost.
Samael releases my hands and looks at me impatiently. "Well, what did he say?"
I close my eyes and impart word for word what Lucien told me. When I open them again, Kate is standing in her husbands embrace, and the two of them look thoughtful.
"You're not seriously thinking about doing this alone, are you?" I ask him incredulously. "You would be up against how many of your siblings? It sounds insurmountable and you'd be certifiably crazy to attempt it!"
"I'm more powerful than any of them," he says offhandedly with a wave of his hand as if the thought of being outnumbered twenty to one was child's play. "So if my intentions are pure, I won't spontaneously combust. Are you sure that's what Lucien said?"
Okay, I can see where turning to ash the moment he entered the realm of Heaven would be more worrisome than facing an army of angels. "I'm 98% sure that's what he said. Now you have me doubting myself," I tell him. The feeling of panic starts to return, crawling up my neck and constricting my chest. Samael stands in front of me and takes my hands again. Looking into my eyes with his dark, penetrating gaze, he says in a deep voice, "There is nothing to worry about here Bella. You are a strong and resourceful woman, what you are feeling is a normal reaction to stress, understand?" I stare at him and nod my head. I immediately feel better and less anxious, and I sure wish I knew how he did that because it works SO much better than my medications.
"They're being held in an immersion room," Kate says. "That's a stroke of luck because if they were in a sub terminal holding cell like I was, Lucien wouldn't have been able to make the connection with Bella." She looks at me and says, "Did you know only soul mates can communicate telepathically?" I stare at her with wide eyes and shake my head.
Samael nods. "So Michael is banking on the fact none of my siblings have a soul mate. Your relationship with my son is so new that it hasn't attracted attention yet. That's one mark in our column." He continues to pace. "Sub terminal cells are not large enough to hold a lot of bodies, and I'm pretty sure they can be compromised if enough force is applied. That's not true for an immersion room, so it makes sense that's where Michael put them," he says as he continues to pace. "I know where the immersion rooms are and since I am allowed into Heaven if my intentions are pure, I'll head straight to them." He sighs and stops pacing. "The problem is, my intentions are only partly pure...I want to murder Michael, and I am sure that is not something my Father would consider a pure intention."
Kate interjects and says, "Avoid him then. Rescue everyone first and get your Father's forgiveness to prevent any unwanted internal fires from flaring up." She smiles softly at him. "Then you can confront Michael."
He chuckles slightly. "I have to get my Father's staff to him if I want absolution darling, and I'll need to take it from Azriaphel. I'm not going to be able to sneak in there silently, and I sure as Hell won't be able to avoid Michael."
"That's where I am going to help you," Kate says, grabbing onto Samuel's arm when he starts to shake his head. "Listen to me Samael. I can run a subterfuge while you dispatch Azriaphel and get the staff. I'll keep you calm so your intentions remain pure. We will release your Father, and then we will find Michael together. I have a few things I'd like to say to that asshole myself."
Samael laughs lightly. "The problem, my beautiful wife, is if Lucien contacts Bella again to tell her something important, how will I know what information is being disseminated if you are with me? You need to stay with Bella and relay any instructions Lucien may have for me."
I think that makes sense as far as things go...actually, who am I kidding? Nothing really makes sense to me. How does one overpower the Supreme Being? Isn't He omnipotent? Omniscient? What, was He playing a game of Hide and Seek and the mutineers pushed Him into whatever an immersion room is, grabbing His staff as He tumbled into it? I sigh and shake my head. I need to stop expecting sane or rational answers when it comes to Lucien and his family. "I will take Kate and JoJo with me to my house because I cannot stay here indefinitely and it sounds like we need to stay together. There is plenty to do at my house to keep her occupied," I tell Lucien's father, smiling at Kate's surprised expression. Samael nods his agreement, so I hug him tightly, tell him to be careful, and then pack up the dog, giving them privacy to say goodbye. 'He will be home soon, and Lucien will be with him,' I tell myself, waiting for Kate to join me in the car.
