Lucien's P.O.V.
This is not a conversation I wanted to have with Bella until I was sure she wanted to spend an eternity with me and I asked her to marry me. I planned on giving my wealth to her as a wedding gift, a surprise to show her she will never want for anything ever again. However, if I just got her pregnant, I am going to ask her father for her hand immediately. I want my children to be born in wedlock, but right now she's not handling either scenario very well. I can understand the pregnancy issue, but what's wrong with being rich? Money gets you what you want, and I have plenty of it.
When she puts her head in her hands and shrieks, I realize it's time to go. I collect the blanket and my sweat pants, unfurl my wings and tap Bella on the shoulder. She has stopped screaming, but she looks ghostly, so I grip her under her legs and around her shoulders and lift off into the air. It's not long before we're at the car, and I open the door for her to slip in. She's been quiet since her primal scream and I don't push her to say anything to me. I drive to my house and shut the engine off, turning to face her.
"Are you okay?" I ask quietly.
She nods. "I'm sorry, Lucien. There is just so much I'm trying to work through right now between meeting your Dad and Grandfather, your Mom coming back, my attackers being put away, and now knowing I'm going to end up pregnant after tonight."
I try to think what I'm going to say without freaking her out. I finally settle on, "That wouldn't be a terrible thing, Bella, would it?"
I see her think about my question instead of reacting to it. She's such an amazing person, and I'm not sure I could love her any more than I do at this moment. "Not terrible in the fact we've created life, but terrible in the fact I'm not ready. I'll be nineteen when this baby is born. I won't ever have had the chance to experience anything in life!"
"But you will, sweetheart, you will," I tell her softly. "You'll attend the University of Tennessee, you will achieve your dreams. You can even have more children during your college years if you want, you'll see. I will be there to help you, my Grandfather will help you too if you'll let Him."
She glances at me sharply. "What do you mean your Grandfather will help me if I let Him?"
I take her hand and look into her eyes. "You've been dealt a continuous hand of bad cards, each one with a side story and a different ending. Somehow you've managed to assimilate the hand you've been dealt and make sense of it all. I'm going to add one more card to your hand, and I hope you see it pairs up with what you are already holding." She's looking at me with apprehension...she knows and understands on a cellular level that whatever I'm about to tell her, she will be able to file under the category of 'Never Knew That Was Possible.' I also realize she has a pretty big folder with that title stamped on the top already. I take a deep breath and a leap of faith. "In recompense for my mother being imprisoned and purposefully kept from us, Grandfather made her immortal so we never have to be apart again. If He hadn't, my mother's soul could only have existed in either Heaven or Hell...here on Earth she would have been intangible. We couldn't touch her and she couldn't touch us." She's looking at me but not saying anything. "He's offered the same deal to you and me so I will never have to face a day without you."
