Bella's P.O.V.

I'm sitting in the Amon's kitchen when I feel a scratching at my subconscious. "Lucien?" I ask, looking up into the air. Did I just hear him call me?

Kate looks at me knowingly. "You two have a divine connection because you are soul mates. He's trying to talk to you. Reach inside yourself and see if you can answer."

I nod, "I heard him when I was in the truck of the car, he told me he found me and that I was safe." I'm quiet for a while, trying to find that connection again. "How is this possible, and how does it work exactly?"

"Well," Kate says, "I don't know how it works, I just know that when Sam and I acknowledged our love for one another, this connection was established. We can talk to each other telepathically, but it takes practice."

"Yeah, I see that because I don't know how to answer him."

"When I was learning, I would concentrate on the things I loved the most about Samael. His voice, his body, the way he could always make me smile. Try to catalog the things you love about Lucien, and then while you're thinking about them, attempt to answer him," she says as if it's that simple.

"Right," I deadpan, as if that's the most normal thing in the world. "Okay, here goes nothing." I think about how he holds me like I'm the most treasured gift in the world. How he kisses me, makes love to me, makes me feel cherished. When I have that euphoric feeling in my mind, I answer him. "Lucien?"

He responds right away, wants to know if I have any last words for the man who abducted me today and tried to kill me three years ago. Yeah, I have a few choice words. FUCK YOU!

"I think I did it!" I exclaim, smiling at Kate. She smiles back at me and pats my shoulder.

"Let's start to make dinner. Sam and Lucien will be home shortly," she tells me, turning toward the groceries we had laid out on the counter.

"Wait, wait, wait," I say, stopping her from getting up with a hand on her arm. "Have you been in contact with Mr. Amon this whole time?"

She looks at me sheepishly and nods. "I'm sorry, Bella, I should have told you. I just worry about them so much, I'm afraid they'll lose their humanity if they continue down this violent path." She looks at me with complete sincerity. "Lucien is not a vicious man, but he's committed the worst kind of violence tonight, and I...I don't know. I needed to make sure Sam helps him come back from this."

"You think he's gone too far? That he won't be able to handle what he's done once he has the time to think about it properly?" I ask quietly. Oh no! Have I somehow ruined the soul of my beautiful angel? I didn't tell him to kill those men, but I didn't tell him not to either.

She shakes her head. "Sam doesn't think Lucien is out of control, he has done what he needed to do, but I have a feeling he's going to need you tonight, and I don't mean in a sexual way," she says quietly.

Okay...shit, I have two finals tomorrow. I immediately realize it doesn't matter because Lucien will alway come first, Besides, he helped me study and I'm confident I'll do fine. "I'll be here for him in what ever capacity he needs me," I tell her quietly.

"I know you will," she says, hugging me to her.

I feel like I've got my Mom back. Kate is so much like her, at least what I remember her as being. "I'm so thankful I've been given this chance to get to know you. There have been multiple times when I felt like asking if you would be willing to adopt me as your surrogate daughter, this being one of them," I tell her gently, hugging her to me tightly. "I will always miss my mother, but you are filling in the holes she left in my life."

Kate laughs, her eyes sparkling. "I would be honored to have you as my daughter, but I think, instead, you're going to be my daughter-in-law. Will that suffice?"

I smile, my eyes glassy. "It will," I tell her sincerely. Clearing my throat I say, "Let's get dinner started. Remember what we decided to make?" I ask, and we turn to put together the meal we bought at the store earlier today.
