Bella's P.O.V.
I listen to Lucien's breathing get heavier and slower. I know he needs me here to soothe him after what transpired in that clearing off SR 321, but I told my father I would be home tonight. The thought of leaving Lucien to face his remorse alone doesn't sit right with me especially since everything he's done tonight was for me. His mother said he would need me, and not in a sexual way, and I know she's right. He started shaking before engulfing me in his embrace. The dog sensed it too and laid down behind him, offering him her heat and comfort. I feel my eyes get heavier and heavier, the stress of the day not lost on my own nerves, and before I know it, I'm awoken by an alarm blaring from my phone. I open my eyes with a start. Shit, its morning. My Dad is going to be pissed and I have to get to school.
Lucien taps my phone silent and snuggles closer to me. "I've got to go, my Dad is going to be pissed."
"Mmm," he says sleepily, "I used your phone and texted him around three o'clock this morning, pretending to be you."
I look at my text messages. 'Sorry Dad, fell asleep after studying. Too tired to drive, I'll be home after my finals.' The time stamp on the message will prove I tried. Lucien had enough presence of mind to cover my ass with my father. "Thank you," I whisper.
I can feel him smile against my skin as he starts kissing my shoulder and rubbing his hand over my hip and down my leg. "I think I've proved I am willing to do anything for you, yes?"
I laugh, "Beyond a reasonable doubt I would say," I tell him, grabbing his hand and holding it tightly to my chest. "How are you doing today?" I ask him. "You fell asleep telling me you weren't sorry, but you wished you didn't have to kill those men."
"Your presence here really helped," he tells me quietly. "JoJo sat with me when I woke up at 2:20 this morning. She's glad they're gone too." I can hear the smile in his voice. "But if I'm being honest, when I crawled back into bed and clutched you to me, a sense of serenity washed over me. My Grandfather sanctioned my actions because He didn't object when I told Him what I was planning. Besides, if Skylar had been able to finish what he started when they abducted you, I wouldn't have been able to hold you last night." My heart melts at his words, and when he leans down to start kissing my neck, I grasp him tightly, thanking him again. It's at that exact moment when my snooze alarm goes off. "Well Miss Parker, it think it's time for you to get up. JoJo and I will make you breakfast while you get in the shower." He snaps his fingers to get the dog to move, and when she does, he gets up and slips on a pair of jeans. They hang low on his hips, and without a shirt on, he looks like he just stepped out of a modeling shoot. He walks over to me for a good morning kiss, then leaves with the dog, allowing me time to get ready.
When I come downstairs, I can smell brewed coffee and bacon. I walk into the kitchen to find Lucien cooking breakfast while JoJo is sitting next to Mr. Amon, staring at him expectantly. He's looking at her with a calculated gaze, watching her watch him when he reaches for his coffee. "Good morning," I announce, walking over to the dog to pet her head. "It looks like Lucien isn't the only one who's made a new friend," I tell Samael, squeezing his shoulder as I walk by toward Lucien.
"This animal is unnerving me with her staring," Lucien's father tells me.
"She just wants you to pet her," I tell him with a smile in my voice.
"Humph," he says, reaching out to pat the dog gently on her head. JoJo's tail starts moving a mile a minute, and then she sits on her haunches, placing a foot on Samael's lap. I see him try to hide his smile, and I know right then this is going to work out for everyone involved. "Okay, JoJo, go on, go bother Lucien," he tells the dog fondly.
As if she understands English, JoJo walks over to where Lucien is cooking breakfast and lies down at his feet. I wrap my arm around his waist and lean in for a kiss. "Good morning again my handsome devil," I tell him, garnering a smile. He kisses me soundly and then releases me to get a cup of coffee. Kate walks in and wraps her arms around Sam's neck, whispering something unintelligible. His smile is content when he pulls her onto his lap, gently stroking a hand down her back. I notice Kate is wearing one of the outfits we bought yesterday and I comment on it.
Kate smiles her thanks. "Sam says he likes it too," she says, playing with the hair on the back of his head.
"Mmm," he agrees, gently tracing the vee of her collar with his finger, and then leans in to kiss her cleavage.
"Sam!" Kate admonishes him, laughing at the look of desire that crosses his face.
"Can't help it," he murmurs. "Would you please excuse us?" he asks, not waiting for an answer. He lifts Kate into his arms as if she were weightless and leaves the kitchen. When I look at Lucien, he has a soft smile on his face.
"Well," I tell him, "I am going to leave you to listen to them all morning while I go take my finals."
He snorts. "Yeah, I think JoJo and I are going for a walk. I'll see you at school after your History exam." He kisses me and hands me an egg sandwich, replete with bacon and cheese. I totally love this man, and I tell him so. He smiles a satisfied smile and ushers me out the door.
The next few hours are spent finishing out my high school career. I know I aced my anatomy and physiology exam, and, with all the anecdotes Lucien told me to help me remember, my history exam. I've got my math final tomorrow, and then I am headed for the University of Tennessee as an incoming freshman! Or am I? For a few hours I forgot Lucien and I broke through that condom. Shit. I guess I need to purchase a home pregnancy test on my way back to the Amon's. I still have a few weeks before it will be able to detect any hormones, so I do a quick calculation...I will know if we are going to be parents around the time of my graduation party.
Lucien is waiting patiently outside for me, checking his phone. He looks up at me and smiles. "How did it go?" he asks.
"I know I aced them both, thanks to you! I could visualize all the muscles in the body, and the stories you told me helped me recall the information I needed on my history final. My Dad is going to be pleasantly surprised when my grades come in, I'm sure he thinks I haven't studied much," I tell him with a smile. We wave to Harmony and Liz when they walk by us, heading toward our cars. "I...uhh...I have to go to the pharmacy before I pick you and your mother up," I tell him quietly.
He looks at me with a question in his eyes, then his face lights up in understanding. He reaches into his wallet and hands me money. When I shake him off he says, "You are not paying for it, and while you're there, can you pick up a test for my mother too?"
Ugh. Yeah, this is too weird...my future mother-in-law and I could be having babies at the same time.
