Bella's P.O.V.

Once Luciens' father body slams Skylar into the ground, I run over to him and bury my face into his chest. He engulfs me in his enormous red arms, the talons on his fingers trace lightly over my skin. He's speaking to me so quietly I can barely make it out. "You are safe, but I need to remain in my Devil persona for this. Catherine is worried sick about you." I hug him tighter and release him when he tells me they are going to kill my assailants. I remember Lucien said they are not permitted to kill humans, so I ask his father if he's allowed to. He roars his laughter, and I can hear the men they've captured whimpering in fear. Lucien got permission from God to murder these men? Okay, if you say so, but how will killing them affect Lucien's psyche? He's done it before, and it still eats away at him, but this time will be no accident. I am a little off kilter when Samael asks if he can take me somewhere so I don't have to witness their murders. Yes please, take me home, and I mean your home, if there is any confusion, but I suppose I can tell him that on the way. First, I have to give one last parting shot to the pathetic man lying on the ground. I don't feel sorry for him anymore, he ignored the faith we tried to instill in him and acted on his own evil impulses instead. I guess he's not a true believer, but he will be soon.

Lucien's father wraps me up in his arms and takes off, morphing into his human form once we're in the air. "That was weird," I tell him, and I feel him chuckle. "Can you drop me off at your house please? I want to see Kate," I tell him, watching his enormous black wings flap as we're flying back toward Pigeon Forge. He looks down at me and smiles gently. "Of course my dear," he whispers in my ear, changing direction slightly. Although it's still exhilarating, it's not as much fun flying in Samael's arms as it is in Lucien's...I can't trace my fingers over his shoulders and down his neck...well, I could, but he would probably drop me. I smile to myself when I think about what Samael would do if I caressed him.

We land just a few minutes later, and he sets me down gently. I kiss his cheek, thanking him, and we head inside together. Catherine is sitting in the kitchen with a cup of tea in front of her. When we walk in, she stands up and races over to me, engulfing me in a warm embrace. "I'm so happy you are okay," she says with tears streaming down her face. "Look at your face! Oh Bella, sit down, let me help you."

"I'm okay," I tell her. "Nothing a little ice won't cure. Are you okay?" I can feel Samael's piercing gaze on me.

"Why wouldn't you be okay?" he asks her, his voice devoid of emotion.

"Oh, that boy got a little rough, but I'm fine. I'm immortal, remember?" she says lightly, putting it off with a wave of her hand.

"What did he do?" he asks, his voice getting deeper and more demonic.

When she doesn't immediately answer him, I do it for her. "Skylar shoved Kate hard enough that she lost her balance and hit her head against the counter when she tried to stop them from taking me."

I see his eyes turn red. "Did he now?" he hisses. Uh oh, Skylar just pissed off the Devil even more. I am so relieved I don't have to witness the outcome of that.

"Now Sam, there is no reason..."

He interrupts her. "Do not tell me that man does not deserve what's coming to him. You should ask Bella what he did to her three years ago." And with that nuclear bomb, he disappears, heading back, I assume, to help Lucien assassinate those men. I almost feel sorry for Skylar.

Kate looks at me with big eyes. "He hurt you, didn't he?" she asks in a small voice.

"He did," I say simply, "tried to strangle me to death after one of his friends raped me."

Kate gasps, and her eyes fill with tears again. "You poor thing, I..."

I interrupt her. "It's okay, Kate. Lucien and Sam righted that wrong. They toyed with Skylar and his buddy for a little while, and then we dropped them off at the police station. I have no idea how Skylar got out, but after tonight, I'm never going to think about him again." I grab her hand and squeeze it. Trying to change the subject I say, "Let's talk about all the things we did today. Do you have any questions?"

We spent the next hour and a half discussing how to apply the make up she bought, how to wash her new clothes in the washing machine, and how to disassemble food, take a list to the grocery store, and reassemble it at home to make meals. We both try to keep our minds occupied so we don't think about what Lucien and Samael are doing at the trailer park that very moment.
