Abuse / Child Abuse
*****
The bumpy road made Kai think she was going to start having a headache. But she tried to stay strong. Her eyes lingered to the right of her, seeing the dust sword around them as they rode on the dirt road.
Aponi felt his hands clam up. His throat tightens. His vision blurred.
The ringing in his ears started.
He started to sweaty his foot pressed on the gas as they sped up. "Aponi..." She called out seeing the view start to speed up that she had to take a second glance they were going slightly faster.
She looked forward, and her heart dropped. "Aponi!" She turned to see him. He looked scared.
Kai pushed the stirring wheel to the left, not to go over the bank. He took in a sharp breath. "Hey! Can you hear me?" She called out to him.
.....
When did it start?
The abuse from his father, from his mother?
The abandonment of the family?
The looks from others?
"Sorry, we can't hang out with you." The kids looked at the tanned boy. But Aponi knew his hopes were too high to even get a friend.
"You stupid fuck!" Aponi held his head. The blood fell on the group and his father just kicked him more.
'When will it stop?'
And he passed out. It wasn't rare it was normal. Yeah, passing out was normal. Waking up in a comfortable bed, was rare.
Why did kids have to deal with abuse? Why did he have to go through it? If Dean didn't want a kid, then why was Aponi there?
Everything Aponi ever wanted in life, was taken away from him by his father.
...
The cold floor was something Aponi had to get used to at a young age. The smell of mold from the walls, bugs crawling everywhere. He wasn't disgusted by the smell anymore. He didn't prefer it, he just didn't get sick anymore. Aponi use to, but now it was a normal everyday smell.
"Didn't I say 10 more? Do it or you aren't going to eat!"
Aponi whipped the vomit in his mouth. He was strapped to 120 pounds. His birthday was today, turning seven years old. He wanted to celebrate it like everyone else. But he had something that weighed 50 pounds more than him.
He turned across the yard to the line turning around to see his father glaring at him.
Eating.
The man was eating in front of him.
.....
Kai pulled out her phone, calling Tyler as she looked worried at Aponi, her hand on his.
It was a quick pick-up. And that made her smile, even in the situation she was in now. Tyler made her feel safe, her worry leaving her body.
"Hey." She could practically feel his smile through the phone, which made her heart skip a beat, turning toward Aponi to see if he was still with her.
"Hi," Kai murmured with a light smile.
She felt her heart do a little dance.
"I thought you were with Aponi today?"
"Yeah, um...what are you doing right now?" Kai worriedly muttered, trying not to make him feel he needs to come. Maybe she could call her brother—though a high possibility that he wouldn't come.
"Nothing, why?" He questioned, knowing something was wrong now. From the smallest bit of a stutter in her voice, he knew she needed him.
"Well, I don't wanna make you think you need to come. Cause you don't have to if you don't want to, so—"
"Kai, where are you?"
"...well Aponi is kinda in a daze, and we almost crashed-"
"WHAT?!"
Kai jumped, scared he was yelling. To say he was worried, would be the understatement of the year.
He told her to stay there, hung up, and left the home, not caring about the speed limit.
He came with Micheal in the truck. When they arrived, Aponi slightly calmed down. Kai was outside, departing to do what he had told him to do.
"Are you guys alright?" Tyler rushed up to her.
"Well, he still wants to confront his family—" Tyler pulled her in looking to see if she was injured.
Kai grinned. His fingers gently pulled her sleeves to check if her arms were okay. "We didn't crash, it was almost. You can check if you want, but I'm all fine." Her free hand rested on his cheek.
Tyler sighed. "I don't like the idea of you being hurt, Kai." His blue eyes flickered with sadness. Just thinking about it, what if they did crash? What would happen, how long would he have to wait to know what? He shuddered from the thought.
Kai shivered, "You're getting too brave with your words." She blushed, pouting slightly. Her heart kept racing but she tried to put on a facade like she wasn't fazed by his actions or words.
"I thought you liked that?" He leaned down, kissing her temple.
Her lips curved up slightly, the lights reflecting the gloss she had on today. "Then do something brave." She whispered seductively.
Tyler felt his find go fuzzy for a second. Should he actually? Maybe she was joking.
Looked back to her plump lips, then to her almond-shaped eyes.
He knew the answer.
Leaning down toward her. Kai closed her eyes, leaning forward.
"Sorry to interrupted." They turned to see Aponi and Micheal staring at them. "But you promised you'd be back home in 2 hours to Lilly," Micheal added.
Kai pouted, relaxing in his arms. "Aponi, are you sure you want to keep going?" Kai asked worriedly.
"Yeah." He smiled.
"You know, I'll ride with Aponi, to um, check on him," Micheal said.
Aponi nodded. "We wouldn't want to get in the way of romance." He bluntly said, getting out as Micheal got in the driver's seat.
Kai walked with Tyler to his truck. He opened the door for her, as she got in.
"We won't be interrupted now," Micheal called out, hitting the gas to go.
Tyler laughed, getting in too. The truck bounced a little as his hand rested on the roof of the truck and swung in.
"So," He muttered, starting to drive. "Am I going to get that kiss later?" Tyler glanced at her.
"Hmm, I don't know." The corner of her lips curved up. He laughed, as they pulled up to a house.
"If you want to play games, we can do it when we get back, love." He got out of the truck, as she stayed, totally embarrassing.
"Love." She repeated out loud.
'Love.' Kai said in her mind, as Tyler opened the door for her, she turned to look at him. "I was getting out." She muttered hopping down as he snickered, leaning toward her.
His lips brushed the skin of her ear. "You're being aggressive today." He teased in a soft voice that flew in her ear.
She felt her knees weaken slightly. 'Just by his voice?' she asked herself.
"Stop it, this is serious right now." She murmured out, though his hand snaked to her side.
Tyler's teeth nibbled her ear slightly. "I think you're enjoying it." He whispered.
Kai jolted, biting her lips. Her knees buckled. Tyler chuckled, letting her go as he wanted to meet with the other two.
