Kai was with a group in the middle on her side of the class in physics. Explaining the problem they had with work. They listened to her explanation carefully.
It's the second week of school, and Tyler has actually been having a long conversation with Kai. And they get along well. They talk every morning, in class when they aren't teaching or helping, at lunch, and advisement.
Tyler's eyes lingered on her. "Mr. Lee." A girl called out, he focused on her, going to her.
Kai and the group laughed as she walked around, seeing everyone get it.
She went back to the seat in the front, Tyler leaving when the girl got it. "Wait up, how about this one?" Tyler looked back over, seeing her pointing at one she did. "Oh, you got that right."
Tyler joined Kai in the front. He noticed her typing, pouting her lips as she normally did.
"Do you like working as an aid?" Tyler asked, worried if she didn't.
"Hm?" Kai looked up at him. "It's okay. Just happy it's not a terrible class." She chuckled as he smiled.
"Yeah, the sixth block is a drag, those kids." He grumbled, thinking about it now just made him angry.
Kai smiled, and she tucked her hair behind her ear. "Well um, I have a free block then, maybe I can come in?"
He turned to look at her, a smile coming on. "Really?" He asked.
Thinking of the extra time together, oh it was perfect.
"Yeah." She whispered, leaning toward him. Her arms crossed on the table in front of her.
Tyler couldn't help the chuckle leaving his lips. "I can't wait."
One kid noticed the two teachers' closeness and signaled the other kids to look.
"Well, I'd enjoy that." He leaned toward her. Watching the hair behind her ear fall on her face once more. His hand rose up to her face, tucking the hair back himself.
Kids whispering, watching intensely, not knowing if they were going to kiss. If they were, it would have been great.
"You think they're a couple?" A girl with blonde hair asked her friend with dyed purple hair. Micheal looked up to see them looking at Kai and Tyler.
"They are pretty cute together, but isn't that against the law or something? Having a relationship with a teacher?"
"Well, she doesn't have classes with him, and she's 18 I believe so."
Kai pulled back, chuckling, hiding behind her hair. Tyler smiled, reaching for her as he tucked her hair behind her ear.
.....
"Ah, Kai." Kai looked over to see Issac, Tyler's father.
"Oh, hey." She smiled. "I thought you already left for the teacher meeting." Issac sighed, waving his hand to dismiss the thought of a meeting that was currently going on.
"I decided to skip that thing, all they talk about is nonsense to seem professional."
Kai chuckled, and her eye fell on the papers he had.
"Could you perhaps get papers from the office? They're already copied." He smiled.
"Oh yeah." Her eyes shifted back to him. Taking her to leave she left.
Kai tried to walk quietly, not liking to make loud footsteps when she walked. But her shoes prevented her wish to be true. She grumbled some words as she came to the door to leave, going out and to the office.
She entered the room with the printer, getting the stack with his name on it. "Did you hear, Mr. Lee is having a relationship with a student." Kai flicked, hearing talking from the room next to her where teachers sat to eat.
"I know right, he should be disgusted with himself."
"Who is he with? I haven't heard anything." One complained.
"I think it was that Kai Ayers girl." She flinched, it was the vice principal, that witch would obviously be on top of this. She had a thing for Tyler, everyone know it. "They were in the truck together when I was talking to him today. He looked so uncomfortable."
"That girl is such a tramp."
"We should dress code her as much as we can, get her in trouble."
"Mr.Lee is getting seduced by her? God, even if she tried to lose that weight she'll still be ugly. She has to be blackmailing him."
Kai looked down at herself, hearing her teachers talk down on her.
"I heard Mr.Lee has been staring at her in class. Some kids say they did stuff."
"Ew."
"I thought you and Mr.Lee had a thing." Kai perked up, not wanting to hear the voice respond to it. But she wanted to know who.
"We were, but I guess he likes younger girls. Such a creep."
Kai turned away, speed walking. She left the office walking back to Isaac's class. Kai tried to be calm, giving him the papers and she left. But she dropped down in the hallway, crying silently.
"Kai?" She looked over to see Aponi standing on the stairs, looking down at her.
"Oh, hey." She wiped her tears, getting up as Aponi hopped over the rail and went to her.
He looked worried. "Are you okay?" He asked. She nodded, shaking. But then she started to cry. He pulled her to his chest, holding her.
"You're okay, don't worry." He soothed her grabbed her thighs and pulled her up. She pulled back shocked as he smiled. "Don't worry, I'm just going to carry you." He said assuring her.
Kai rested her chin on his shoulder, then adjusted to rest in the crook of his neck. Putting her arms around him. "So, is something wrong?" He asked, pushing the door with his foot and walking out to the empty area.
"It's just, about a guy." She muttered, Aponi felt his heartache, knowing who it was about.
"Tyler?" Kai flinched, as he set her down on the chair, sitting next to her in the other one. "What'd he do?" Aponi asked.
"It's not him, it's the teachers. They think we're having a relationship and were talking bad about him." Kai muttered, pulling her leg up to rest her chin on it.
"Aren't you?"
"How'd you even know it was Tyler?" Kai turned to face him. Aponi laughed.
"When you got your wrist injury. It was obvious beforehand. Some kids suspected he liked you when he came here. Guess you didn't notice." Aponi snickered.
Aponi leaned back, smelling the flowers next to them from the garden.
He never was good with advice, and when it came to romance it fell even harder.
"It's not bad to be in love." He commented, turning to her. "So the fuck what you like him, he likes you. People might think it's weird, but what's weird about it? I know all these teachers have an age gap with their partners being more than yours and his."
He pushed his hair back, seeing her tears slowly come to a stop. He whipped them for her, leaning toward her.
"You like him, you're going to come to terms with that soon." He whispered.
"I...I'm afraid of being hurt." She muttered.
"Being hurt is a part of life, a part of the day." He shrugged. Resting his forehead on hers. "You'll be fine, he'll try to do whatever for you, I know it." He whispered.
Their dark brown eyes lingered on one another.
Not romantically, not at all.
Aponi saw her as someone he could trust, though something stronger than that. Not sexually or anything. He saw her as a sister, a sister he wished he had. Kai saw him as a brother. More than her two biological brothers, not talking to them, not even knowing them.
Was this a sibling bond thing?
