Arc 2 Chapter 21: Anxiety

3rd Person POV:

They sat down once they had entered his chambers. "So, my brother sent you here, which means you're trustworthy.", he said while looking at her. "Do you know what I want to do next?"

"Yes, I do", she answered him. "You want to pull a new servant of the crown prince to your side.", she elaborated while looking back at him. "Since our family served yours for generations, I'll follow every order you have for me."

"No worries. Right now, you just need to do what a maid working for me would normally do. Start getting familiar with our big palaces. I'll need you once you're done.", he said with a smile. "First, I was hoping that you could serve me a tea as well as some refreshments"

"Yes, Kendric. I'll do as you said", she answered and left the chambers. 'Pancake, monitor all of my food and drinks from now on. They'll probably try more than once to poison me. I'm immune to most of it, thanks to the 'blessing of the moon goddess', but I would at least like to know before I eat it so I can prepare mentally.'

{I understand, Edwin.}, answered Pancake.

After the system answered, Hernan entered the room, closed the door behind himself and stood still next to it.

Kendric sighed and looked at him. "You don't want to sit next to me?", he said while looking at him with saddened eyes. Hernan couldn't stand them, so he sat down next to him.

"If there's something bothering you, please tell me.", he now said and took his husband's hand. "I could feel since earlier that your mood isn't that good."

Hernan looked away. "As your knight, nothing is bothering me.", he answered.

"And.. As my beloved?", the prince whispered and hugged him. "Please tell me.."

The knight flinched a bit before letting out a light sigh. He caressed his hair. "I know it's ridiculous but.. I felt weird when you took her hand and smiled at her like that. I wanted to separate you and I didn't want her to look at that smile.. It looked so normal when you stood next to her.. I felt anxious at that thought.."

Kendric looked into his deep eyes with a smile. "You know, I've never really cared about what's normal or not. Sure, people would look at us weirdly... Hell, they might even react violently. But, you know.. As long as I can be with you, it doesn't matter. I know I love you and could forever only love you... If somebody would ever try and force me to marry someone else.. I would rather commit suicide than do it.."

Hernan stopped him from continuing. "No, don't do that, please", he said and hugged him tighter. "I can live with anything, just don't die, please", he continued with a shaking voice. Even his body was shaking uncontrollably. His eyes turned red and tears started forming.

Kendric flinched a bit. 'Now I'm certain. He's my love from my first life.. That reaction would otherwise be way too extreme. He must have experienced it before, but can't remember it directly.. But his soul remembers.'

He kissed him softly to calm him down. After he felt him relaxing a bit, he pulled back. "Okay, don't worry... I'll try my best to stay alive and next to you forever.", he said with a soothing voice while patting his back. "And even if there's one life where I can't, I'll find you again in our next.. So please don't worry", he said after remembering the Hell difficulty he hadn't experienced yet.

These words seemed to work wonders, he calmed down a lot afterwards. They looked at each other afterwards and Kendric smiled gently at him. "So.. What did that maid say?"

Hernan looked away a bit, since he was a little embarrassed about his little outburst just now. "Well.. I don't really know what you wrote, but it certainly got her interest. She said she would meet you tomorrow at night.", he answered.

'Pancake, what's her last name?'

{It's Dolivo, Edwin}

'Thank you'

"That's good. If she had declined, I'd have to change plans.", he said relieved."Can I ask you to do one more thing for me?"

"Sure", answered the knight his prince. "I'll do whatever you ask of me, just say the word"

"Find out everything you can about the last name Dolivo. We need more information to negotiate a deal", he said with a smile.

"No worries.. I'll do my best.", he answered and kissed his beloved quickly but gently before standing up. "You'll know everything about that name by tomorrow.", he said before leaving the room, not giving Kendric a chance to speak.

Kendric smiled a sad smile once he was gone. 'It's kinda cute seeing him so embarrassed...but the circumstances aren't. He must've suffered a lot after my death to end up being Mortal.. I just hope to find out what happened soon.. ', he thought and sighed.

'Say Pancake.. Does this pack also work for the so-called 'blessing'?', he asked after calming down a bit

{Yes it does, since it does exist as a 'power' in your body.}

'Does that mean magic exists here?'

{No, it doesn't. There are only a few blessed people here and there, and they're a small number at that. The blessings are weak as well. The system can only change 'immune to most poison' to 'immune to all poison'.}

'I see, that's why I didn't feel any different. Thank you for explaining.'

After he finished talking to Pancake, Yuna came into the room, pushing a cart with tea and snacks inside.
