Arc 2 Chapter 24: Inventory

3rd Person POV:

They both sat down and Kendric told him what he had told Reina with a heavy heart. He didn't really want to tell him half-truths, but he had no other choice. He couldn't talk about the system.

"..I'm sorry to have lied to you before.. I knew you would choose me as your liege, but I had to pretend that I didn't... So I reacted the way I would've in my first life..", he said with a sad expression.

Before he could say more, he was embraced by the strong arms of his beloved. "That's fine.. Really. I always wondered why you believed in next lives and seemingly don't really care about yourself.. It must've been hard, carrying that all with you"

Kendric hugged him back tightly and tried his best not to cry. He really, really hated himself right now.. He wanted to tell him the whole truth, but he couldn't.

{Edwin, calm down. It's good not to tell him now, it could potentially hurt his soul.}

After hearing that, he calmed down a bit. He would do anything for him, even if he had to lie to do it. He could never hurt his beloved's soul.

After telling him a little more about his 'past life', which took a few hours, they started talking about Reina and the plan.

"What do you want to do now?", asked Hernan.

"Right now, we just need to wait. I know that Reina wants to kill them herself, since it's her family's revenge. Once she's done, I'll propose a deal to the Emperor and second prince to keep their lives. What they choose in the end would be their own choice. If they want to die, then so be it.", he answered and yawned a bit.

Hernan put him on the bed and laid himself down next to him. "Let's sleep."

Kendric nodded and closed his eyes while cuddling with his husband.

{Edwin, you finished the second hidden task and unlocked an inventory. It has five slots as of now. You can only stack up to 10 of one item inside one slot. You can buy additional slots by paying 100 points per slot. You can place everything inside except for living things with a beating heart.}

'Sounds good, thank you for telling me.', he answered and thought a bit about what he should place inside before falling asleep shortly after.

The next months were pretty relaxing. Kendric and Hernan waited while spending a lot of time together. They talked and laughed about various things. When they didn't, they trained Kendric's body together to make it fitter. They also sparred to compare their martial arts and of course Hernan always won their little sparring sessions.

There were times when the Empress had sent assassins to kill the third prince, but they were all unsuccessful. He himself wasn't that weak and he had Hernan by his side. His skill sense of danger helped a lot as well.

4 months later, news reached them about the Empress falling sick, indicating the start of Reina's plot. Of course, the crown prince and Emperor visited her. The Emperor probably only did so to keep up pretense was what Kendric thought. All other people possessing the royal bloodline also visited, except for the second and third prince.

It didn't take long for the crown prince and the others, except for the Emperor, to fall sick as well. Only one week. The doctors confirmed that it's the same sickness that had befallen the Empress, so they were all put in the same room. Nobody was allowed to visit them and the palaces were thoroughly cleaned.

They all fought the sickness for one month before passing away with a few hours difference. The funeral was held shortly after the crown prince passed away as well, for he lasted the longest.

Two weeks after the funeral, Kendric took Reina and asked for an audience with the Emperor with the second prince present, which was granted for the next day.

After that, everything would be over. Kendric could take his beloved to Amaris and live out the rest of their lives together. He already couldn't wait for it.

The next day, they both waited in front of the giant door leading to the throne room. Hernan was standing behind them. Shortly after, the door opened and they all walked inside.

Kendric walked upfront and knelt down. "This prince greets the Emperor.", he said causing the Emperor to flinch a bit, since he didn't adress himself as his son.

"So you know the truth now.", he said with a sigh.

"Father, what truth are you talking about?", asked the second prince.

"Allow me to explain, your highness Ezra", said Kendric and started explaining everything once more.

Ezra stood still with a slightly shocked expression. "I see.. So, was that sickness your work?", he now asked sadly.

Now Reina walked forward. "That was my handiwork, your highness.", she said while smiling elegantly and gently. "My name is Reina Dolivo. I am a descendant of the royal family your ancestors murdered mercilessly to create this empire. Now I want to take back what you guys took."

The Emperor sighed."Kendric.. Why is she with you?"

"We made a deal.", he answered and took out the container with the pills. "She'll spare the two of you and let you live in peace, but under one condition. Each of you has to take one pill. If you do, you won't be getting children in your lifetime, but you'll be able to live in a remote village."

There was a long silence following his words. Even a needle dropping down would've been heard clearly.
