Chapter 42 Obelisk Assault

Back in the Volcanic Area, the ground rumbled beneath the molten field. Yuzu gasped as she caught sight of the girl standing before her.

"You're... Serena, right?" she asked cautiously.

"Face me," Serena demanded, her eyes cold as steel. "I know that you're a remnant of the Xyz forces!"

"Xyz... remnant?!" Yuzu turned in shock toward Dennis.

Dennis shook his head quickly. "No, I'm not that—"

"Don't play dumb!" Serena snapped. "If you won't start, then I will!" Her Duel Disk activated, the blade of light humming to life.

"Wait! We're still in the Junior Youth Championship!" Yuzu tried to reason with her. "What are you—"

Dennis chuckled lightly. "It's fine, Yuzu. She's clearly misunderstood, but adapting to situations like this... that's part of Entertainment Dueling too, isn't it?"

Yuzu groaned. "Um... are you even listening?"

Dennis gave her a wink. "Now then, shall we begin? Just stand back, Yuzu, and watch closely. It's always better when there's an audience!"

Both Duelists raised their arms, Duel Disks flashing as they shouted together: "Duel!" (Serena:4000)(Dennis:4000)

"I activate the Spell Card—Fusion!" Serena declared without hesitation. "I fuse Moonlight Blue Cat with Moonlight Purple Butterfly! Blue Cat that prowls through the darkness! Butterfly with violet poison! Spiral together into the moon's gravity and awaken a new power! Fusion Summon! Beautiful beast that dances in the moonlight—Moonlight Cat Dancer (ATK:2400/DEF:2000/Level 7)!"

The graceful beast spun onto the field, claws gleaming like silver in the glow of the lava.

Dennis's lips curved faintly, though his thoughts were sharp. Just as I expected...

From the sidelines, Yuzu, Ruri, Rin, and Ray all stared.

"So that's her Fusion Monster..." Ruri whispered.

"Moonlight... Cat Dancer..." Rin added tensely.

Serena thrust a card onto her Duel Disk. "I set one card face-down and end my turn. Now, bring it on!"

Inside the shadowed temple of the Ancient Ruins, Kurosaki Shun and Sora faced each other, their Duel Disks igniting with light. (Shun:4000)(Sora:4000)

Sora's glare was sharp. "This time, I definitely won't lose! I'll start! I Normal Summon Edge Imp Tomahawk (ATK:1800/DEF:800/Level 4)!"

A jagged-bladed fiend took shape, its weapons gleaming under the temple's dim light.

"I activate its effect! By sending one 'Edge Imp' monster from my hand to the Graveyard, you take 800 damage!"

He discarded a card, and Tomahawk fired a vicious beam across the field, striking Shun. (Shun:4000-3200)

"I set one card face-down and end my turn."

Shun narrowed his eyes. "My turn! I Normal Summon Raid Raptors – Vanishing Lanius (ATK:1300/DEF:1600/Level 4)!"

A black-armored raptor took flight, screeching through the ruin's halls.

"If I control a Vanishing Lanius, I can Special Summon this card—Raid Raptors – Fuzzy Lanius (ATK:500/DEF:1500/Level 4)!"

Another bird of prey swooped in, smaller but moving in tight formation with its comrade.
